WORK LOCATION, SCHEDULE & TRAVEL

  • This position will be located at General Services Building in Forest Park, GA (Metro Atlanta).

  • Some office work can be performed remotely (telework/work from home) with the expectation that you can successfully telework and would be willing to travel to work and/or field location on a routine (to be determined) and as-needed basis.

  • Some relocation assistance may be available if the successful candidates does not already live within a reasonable commute distance.

  • This position will require a mix of both field and office work. A moderate amount of travel will be required (approximately 25%). Travel to vendors locations for audits and witness testing is required.

JOB SUMMARY

This position will provide daily leadership, guidance, and direction in the support of major equipment needs for customers across Southern Company. This position will work within the Equipment Services group and serve as a technical resource for major equipment supporting design, maintenance, sparing strategy and problem resolution for customers across the Southern Company footprint supporting both generation, transmission, and nuclear. Additional responsibilities include working with supply chain management and Equipment Services teammates to streamline equipment request, completing special projects, and working with vendors to ensure Southern Company’s requirements are met.

Summary of Position Responsibilities:

  • Ensure safety and quality are the top priorities

  • Support fleet major equipment (circuit breaker & transformer) projects including meeting you’re your customers and project managers to ensure appropriate equipment is procured and assigned to projects in a timely manner.

  • Serve as a technical resource to the Project Management organization for project scoping and feasibility.

  • Support projects by participating in design activities such as specifications, design reviews, performing factory audits, witness nesting, and assisting customers in resolving technical issues.

  • Support and work with all parties involved with projects such as system owners, TSS, Transmission Maintenance Areas, Substation Maintenance support, Vendor Quality, Generation Planning & Development, Projection & Controls, and Transmission Planning.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited institution is required

  • Professional Engineer License is preferred

Experience:

  • Knowledge of circuit breakers or power transformers is preferred but not required

  • Knowledge of Power BI, Mobi is preferred but not required

  • Experience in transmission maintenance or protection and controls is preferred but not required

  • Proven ability in applying safe work practices

  • Ability to build and maintain professional working relationships with internal and external clients

  • Excellent oral and written communications skills

  • Presentation skills to effectively communicate technical knowledge to others

  • Extensive problem-solving skills
