Southern Company Financial Analyst - TLT/TSC Support in Atlanta, Georgia
Job Summary
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Financial Analyst to provide budgeting and analytical support to Southern Company’s Technology Leadership Teams (TLTs) and Technology Steering Committees (TSCs). This net new role will address the need for project-centric reporting and analysis to these governance bodies who ensure Southern Company’s technology initiatives are well-planned, strategically aligned, and effectively executed. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in budgeting, financial analysis, and reporting to various levels of management.
Key Responsibilities
Collaborate with TLTs and TSCs to develop, monitor, and manage budgets for various technology projects and initiatives.
Establish and maintain effective relationships and communications with TLT/TSC members, as well as business unit and project managers.
Facilitate productive collaboration between SCS and the affiliates to ensure standardized and cohesive TLT/TSC reporting.
Ensure accurate and consistent project creation and settings across Operating Companies to facilitate precise and reliable reporting.
Prepare detailed financial reports, forecasts, and variance analyses to support decision-making processes.
Analyze financial data and trends to provide insights and recommendations for cost optimization and efficiency improvements.
Assist in the preparation of budgets, forecasts, and long-term financial plans.
Assist in the preparation of monthly budget-to-actuals, monthly year-end projections, as well as both short-term and long-term financial plans.
Ensure compliance with financial policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
Support month-end and year-end closing processes.
Conduct ad hoc financial analysis and special projects as required.
Collaborate with TLT/TSC leadership on communications with stakeholders, including senior management, project teams, and committees.
Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field is required.
Master of Business Administration (MBA) or Master of Accountancy (MaC) is preferred.
Experience:
Minimum of 1-5 years of experience in budgeting, financial analysis, or related role is preferred.
Experience in budgeting, reporting, and/or performing financial analysis for technology projects is preferred.
Demonstrated experience with Oracle Cloud ERP, SOAR, and PowerPlan is preferred.
Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel is required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
Effective communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
Knowledge of technology industry trends and financial practices is preferred.
Knowledge of utility and regulatory accounting (SEC, FERC, and GAAP).
Ability to pull disparate pieces of information together to form one consolidated and concise report.
Demonstrates personal ownership and initiative.
