The Intermodal & Automotive (IMAU) division constitutes 62% of NS’ volume and 34% of revenue for a Fortune 500 company. Our team owns Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for our terminal operations, as well as process improvement, analytics, and innovation projects. This role requires end-to-end management of technological, analytical, and process improvement projects. Our mandate is to deliver bottom-line improvement in capital efficiency, productivity, and cost savings. The team takes a whole of business approach, and this role provides ample opportunity to work and deliver impact across multiple functions.
Primary Purpose:
Manage Process Improvement projects through the Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, and Control (DMAIC) methodology.
Gather, analyze, & present data analysis to measure Intermodal & Automotive operations performance and provide decision-making support to stakeholders.
Principal Duties:
Deep dive operational issues through a combination of data and anecdotal sources to implement process changes, corrective actions, and service level recovery.
Manage projects of 8-12 weeks in length.
Devise and disseminate project-related information to multiple stakeholders to support operational initiatives.
Compile & blend data from multiple sources, e.g. relational stores, flat-files, APIs.
Write, debug, and update complex SQL statements.
Create reports and interactive dashboards on a variety of BI platforms.
Champion NS Process Improvement Methodology within IMAU Operations.

Relocation assistance is not provided, but Norfolk Southern does offer a Living Stipend of $850/month, which is taxed, to those who qualify.
