JOB DESCRIPTION: Plans, implements, and evaluates nursing and other health provider research and evidence based practice activities, to promote the delivery of patient centered care and improve patient outcomes. Role defined related to specialty such as safety, high reliability, clinical focus, etc.

Promotes, supports, and facilitates individuals/groups engaging in research and evidence based practice activities to advance professional practice. Conducts original research. Partners with NHWSN in evidence based practice and research. Contribute to the development of the facility research priorities. Serves on departmental and other external committees as needed.

Provides leadership for research/evidence based practice education to staff, including both formal classes and informal sessions. Serves in a leadership role to coordinate the annual research symposium. Promotes collaboration and teamwork in inter-professional research/evidence based practice activities.

Identifies opportunities for research funding, assists departments and individual health care professionals to apply and obtain such funding for research projects and activities. Fosters the development of a practice environment conducive to the conduct of research and evidence base practice.

Provides mentoring and coaching for IRB submission, development of abstracts, posters, podium presentations, and publications.

Actively develops and maintains liaisons with schools of nursing, nursing experts, and community resources. Participates in integration of professional practice standards as supported by professional nursing organizations, evidenced based recommendations, and research in coordination with shared governance councils. Facilitates changes in practice based on research and quality improvement findings. Integrates Quality Safety Education for Nurses philosophy and principles into nursing practice.

Maintains membership in relevant professional organizations. Reviews current literature and communicates knowledge to other staff members including current healthcare trends and related legislative/regulatory issues. Maintains competency and enhances professional growth and development through participating in continuing education, conferences, and seminars.

Promotes participation in research opportunities outside of the facility/organization. Promote patient and provider safety through system effectiveness and individual performance.

Uses information and technology to communicate, manage knowledge, mitigate error and support decision making.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: PhD in nursing preferred; actively pursuing a nursing PhD a minimal requirement. Five years of experience in nursing practice. Experience in study design and the research process. Experience facilitating nursing research and evidence based practice. Must have a valid, active unencumbered Nursing license or temporary permit approved by the Georgia Licensing Board.
