Job Description

The Operations Research Scientist will be responsible for providing management with recommendations for the use of analytical models and decision support systems. In this position you will drive productivity, efficiency, achieve operational excellence, increase revenues, and reduce costs.

Responsibilities

  • Provide production support and enhancements for existing operations research applications.

  • Design new mathematical or machine learning models and implement them in programming language such as C/C++, Java or Python.

  • Evaluate the accuracy and quality of data sources and develop appropriate remedies for data gaps.

  • Collaborate with business partners in various departments to identify opportunities for process improvement.

  • Work with application development teams to integrate developed models into a production environment.

  • Perform a leadership role and supervise a group of people to achieve goals by creating an environment that promotes positive communication, encourages bonding of team members, and demonstrates flexibility.

  • Ensures work efforts are compliant with approved corporate policies, departmental standards, and procedures.

  • Applies understanding of industry best practices, optimization, methodologies, and emerging technologies in operations research.

Education:

Advanced degree, e.g., Ph.D. or M.S. in industrial engineering, operations research, information systems, mathematics, statistics, or other science and engineering fields.

Bachelor’s degree in computer science or management information system.

Skills Required:

  • 1-3 years of experience in developing decision support systems using operations research models.

  • Experience with CPLEX, Gurobi or other optimization solvers.

  • Proficiency with programming languages for software development such in Python, Java, C/C++ Proficiency with database programming languages such as SQL.

  • 1-3 years of experience in software development methodology.

Skills Preferred:

  • Railroad business knowledge for general service design principles, including railroad blocking, train scheduling and routing algorithms.

  • Railroad business knowledge for how to measure and analyze train performance.

  • Proficiency with LINUX or UNIX platforms

  • Machine learning, neural network, and deep learning

  • Simulation with Anylogic or ARENA

  • Experience with operations research modeling, simulation, and advanced analytics in the B2B transportation or railroad industries.

Environment: Office remote, ideal candidate must be based or relocated within 60 miles Atlanta.
