We are seeking a principal Systems Engineer to join the CO+I Systems Technology team. This role focuses on enabling and leading innovative cooling and power technology for AI and compute infrastructure across both hardware and datacenter environments. You will lead the integration of cutting-edge technologies, scale new innovations, and drive the planning and reliability roadmap to enhance our datacenters' efficiency and sustainability.
In this pivotal role, you will be the technology leader and subject matter expert for innovative advanced cooling and power projects. This role is located either in one or all hub locations - Atlanta, GA, Washington, D.C., Redmond, WA, San Antonio, TX or Phoenix, AZ.
Relocation support will be provided, and successful candidates must relocate or reside within 50 miles of the hub office location.
This role is eligible for hybrid or remote work, up to 100%.

Responsibilities
Provide Technical Leadership: Guide & champion innovative liquid cooling and power projects, from ideation to productization.Collaborate closely with data center and Hardware (HW) teams.Ensure alignment with Microsoft’s sustainability and business goals.
Identify and Drive Strategic Priorities: Propose and lead initiatives that change company strategy, programs, or processes, ensuring they drive significant business impact.
Stay Current with Technology Trends: Monitor and analyze the latest developments in cloud technology and sustainability, identifying best practices, emerging trends, and opportunities for improvement.
Act as an Advocate and Evangelist:Leverage your expertise to serve as a technical advocate and thought leader, driving impact across solution areas and engaging with stakeholders both internally and externally.
Develop and Execute Strategic Plans: Orchestrate the execution of technology evaluation and strategic planning, partnering with teams across the company to track the efficacy of plans and drive long-term growth.
Coordinate and Unify Initiatives: Collaborate with peers to ensure alignment and efficiency in delivering on technological and sustainability commitments, recommending and assessing initiatives and partnerships for technical feasibility and cost-effectiveness.
Engage in Business Cadence:Participate in regular business cadence connections, sharing insights and collaborating with teams to drive accountability for key performance indicators.
Foster Collaboration: Actively engage in cross-team orchestration, enhancing technological understanding and capabilities in partnership with peers, leading to increased awareness and knowledge across the organization.
Represent Microsoft Externally: Represent Microsoft in external meetings and events, promoting the company’s technology and sustainability initiatives.
Champion a Culture of Innovation: Model and promote a culture of technological innovation and sustainability within the company through personal commitment, subject matter expertise, and forward-thinking approaches.
Effective Project Management:Maintain oversight of concurrent projects, ensuring effective time management and prioritization, and flagging any risks to project deliverables.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
10+ years of technical engineering experienceo OR Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 8+ years of technical engineering experienceo OR Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 5+ years of technical engineering experienceo OR Doctorate degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 4+ years of technical engineering experience.
8+ years demonstrated deep understanding of server and data center different liquid cooling technologies.
Knowledge of server system architecture with hands-on experience in the integration, validation, and bring-up of Printed Circuit Board Arrays (PCBAs), hardware components, and/or systems.
Proven experience indata center facility cooling
Proven experience in systems hardware testing, including development, execution, and debugging.

Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Preferred Qualifications:
16+ years of technical engineering experience
OR Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 14+ years of technical engineering experience
OR Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 12+ years of technical engineering experience
OR Doctorate degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 10+ years of technical engineering experience.
Demonstrated deep understanding of server and data center power technologies.
Demonstrated deep understanding pf chip to chiller reliability, operations, and productization.
Experience using Computer Aided Design (CAD) tools such as CREO and CFD tools like Flotherm, Cadence, Celsius, and Ansys Fluent.
Proven knowledge in chemistry and material science, particularly with refrigerants used for cooling applications.
Fundamental understanding of chip design, including Vary Large System Integration (VLSI), packaging, and yield.
Familiar with developing scripts (Python, PowerShell) to enable and accelerate data collection and data reduction through automation.
Knowledge and experience with Microsoft Server environments.
Proven written and oral communication skills.
Familiarity with network infrastructure.
Recognized as an industry thought leader in cooling technologies and sustainable data center operations.
Experience deploying techs at scale
Extensive experience leading and guiding complex cooling and power technology projects within large-scale data center environments.
Ability to mentor and lead virtual teams.
Track record of innovative problem-solving in cutting-edge technological contexts.
Demonstrated ability to collaborate across diverse teams and influence executive-level stakeholders.
Advanced certifications in relevant fields such as data center management, advanced cooling technologies, or sustainable engineering practices.
Published research or patents in the fields of liquid cooling, refrigerants, or sustainable data center technologies.
Experience managing and implementing technological projects on a global scale, ensuring compliance with international standards and best practices.
Hardware Engineering IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $137,600 - $267,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $180,400 - $294,000 per year.
