General Summary:
The Principal Teleport Solutions Architect is a specialized role focused on the design, optimization, development, implementation, and maintenance of Warner Bros. Discovery's Atlanta, Georgia teleports. This role works in conjunction with the team of engineers that support satellite distribution and monitoring of video services to affiliate broadcasters across North America, Latin America, and Asia Pacific for Warner Bros. Discovery brands.
You will leverage your knowledge of RF systems and design principles to develop satellite distribution and monitoring workflows, improve existing systems, and create solutions that meet the goals of Warner Bros. Discovery to reliably deliver linear programming to its affiliates. The role requires broad experience across broadcast disciplines including knowledge of RF engineering, video over IP, IT, networking, cloud-based technologies, and distribution delivery methods including satellite and terrestrial.
Key Responsibilities:
Serve as lead engineer for all teleport analysis, design, and development activities.
Serve as lead engineer on the TTI and CRES Teleport Crystal M&C systems.
Serve as co-lead engineer on the CNN Newsbeam Crystal M&C system.
Serve as co-lead engineer for the creation of requirements documentation, vendor request for quotes (RFQ), drawings, wire run lists, project schedules and test documentation.
Serve as co-lead project engineer for all teleport system builds and equipment refresh. This includes the entire project life cycle of documentation, project management, design, implementation, and test.
Serve as co-lead engineer on the iDirect Dialog Hub support.
Serve as co-lead engineer on distribution drawing standardization.
Serve as teleport co-lead procurement liaison on all yearly Capital and Operational Expenditure purchases.
Identify and research future projects, upgrades and teleport improvements.
Provide guidance to management for yearly budget development.
Provide tier 3 engineering technical support for “air affecting” or other problematic issues at WBD owned teleports and third-party locations.
Shared on call responsibilities.
Qualifications:
Must have SME level knowledge of teleport systems architecture and ground station equipment.
Must have SME level knowledge of RF theory, electrical and electronics theory, with specific expertise of major systems to include: M&C systems, antenna drive systems, High Power Amplifiers, Up/Down Converters, Fiber Optic sub-systems, Baseband (modems, multiplexers, Broadband and IP technologies) and Video technologies/systems.
Must have experience in creating architecture drawing sets.
Must have experience writing requirements documents, RFQs and test plans.
Must have a demonstrated ability to learn new technologies, understand intricate technical concepts and make informed decisions.
Must have strong project management skills, the ability to create schedules / timelines, the ability to lead a project and keep the project on schedule.
Must have good time management skills and the ability to multitask.
Must have good written and oral communication skills.
Four-year college degree in engineering preferred.
20 years of experience in satellite communications required.
Equivalent education and experience considered.
Desirable skills:
Experience with Smartsheet, Microsoft 0365 Suite, Auto CAD and/or Visio.
Experience with vector network analyzer, scalar network analyzer and fiber test equipment.
