The Santangelo laboratory in the Wallace H. Coulter Department of Biomedical Engineering at Emory University, within the School of Medicine and Emory Vaccine Center is seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented research technician with a focus in flow cytometry. The ideal candidate will assist in panel design, perform cell staining, QC, and running the flow cytometer. The laboratory is outfitted with a state-of-the-art spectral flow cytometer with the ability to automatically run up to 96 samples. We are expanding the ability of the laboratory to analyze our novel RNA-based therapeutics. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Functions as a skilled individual contributor or lead researcher on one or more research projects, serving as an expert in specialized area(s).

  • Designs, develops and conducts large and/or complex research experiments.

  • Reviews progress of research and evaluates results.

  • Shares expertise in equipment operation and laboratory techniques.

  • Refines/adapts methodologies to fit specific experiment requirements.

  • Collaborates in the development of new techniques.

  • Co-authors publications and may co-present findings with Principal Investigator at meetings/conferences.

  • Performs related responsibilities as required.

ADDITIONAL JOB RESPONSIBILITES:

  • Must have familiarity with flow cytometry, cell sorting, preparation of single cell suspensions, and cell staining, etc.

  • Must have experience with high-dimensional panel design (>15 colors).

  • Must be able to learn to independently operate and QC the flow cytometer.

  • Work with scientists to execute cell preps, cell staining, and analysis.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A bachelor's degree in a scientific field.

  • Seven years of professional research experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • At least 5 years of experience with flow cytometry sample prep and instrument use.

  • Prior experience with high-dimensional panel design required.

  • At least 5 years of experience in a wet lab environment.

NOTE: Position tasks are generally required to be performed in-person at an Emory University location. Remote work from home day options may be granted at department discretion. Emory reserves the right to change remote work status with notice to employee.
