This position is responsible for building strong business understanding and relationships to enable the delivery of technology solutions that deliver the intended business value in the spirit of the Agile Scrum Methodology. The Product Engineer's primary responsibilities are to prioritize features according to business value as wells as the user stories into an ordered backlog. They will also participate in Sprint ceremonies like Inception, Future State, Alignment, Sprint Planning, Retrospectives, User Story Writing and Refinement. It is important that they also establish and maintain effective partnerships with the Business and IT product teams.

Responsibilities:

  • The ideal candidate works closely with the domain product and development teams to ensure that the team clearly understands the required functionality to meet market needs.

  • Collaborates with product, project and development stakeholders and teams, gathering requirements, coordinating dependencies, and identifying risks and opportunities

  • Conducts research, performs studies to obtain data; and analyzes problems to advise on or recommend solutions, utilizing knowledge of theory, principles

  • Represents the customer to the development team

  • Owns the scope of the project, works with Business sponsors, Sponsor users, identifies personas, defines the minimum viable product (MVP), and defines hypotheses

  • Manages and makes visible the product backlog, or the prioritized list of requirements for future product development

  • Defines, writes, and ranks the user stories that direct the design and development work

  • Prioritizes by iterating the order of items in the product backlog

  • Being available to the development team to answer any questions team members have regarding the customer’s needs and the customer’s views of how the team is implementing a product feature

  • Collaborates with designers on the overall user experience, attends playbacks with sponsor users and stakeholders, and collaborates through user testing.

  • Accepts user stories; that is, decides when a user story has delivered the outcome.

  • Decides when to go to production and owns or collaborates on the "Go To Market" plan

  • Works with the Squad Lead to execute the biweekly Iteration Planning Meeting

  • Leads story grooming sessions or requirements clarifications sessions

  • Translates product strategy into requirement documents, using cases and process flows

  • Works with application support and development team to fix software bugs and escalated issues

  • Ability to write necessary stories to deliver functionality, such as user interaction stories, or system integration stories or API level stories

  • Documents, analyzes and proposes process changes or re-engineering approaches based on an understanding of technical problems and solutions as they relate to current and future state business and technical environments

What you need to succeed (minimum qualifications)

  • Must be able to prioritize work on multiple project teams, with the overall goal of satisfying all deployment needs and effectively supporting diverse clients.

  • Prioritizing and iterating the order of items in the product backlog

  • Being available to the development team to answer any questions team members have regarding the customer’s needs and the customer’s views of how the team is implementing a product feature

  • Strong experience in discovery, identification, and documentation of APIs

  • Ability to work with multiple IT and business teams to gather and document API requirements

  • Experience developing requirements and test scenarios for automated test suites for APIs

  • Demonstrated experience with Agile or other rapid application development methods

  • 3 - 5 years of project coordination and previous airline business experience is preferred

  • Must possess the technical expertise to apply relevant technical processes to appropriate business needs

  • Must be able to effectively and professionally communicate with management, staff and customers as well as demonstrate sound judgment/reasoning skills

  • Ability to work independently to achieve exceptional results

  • Candidate must have the ability to deliver quality work on time and translate planning into action by following applicable established procedures or methodologies

  • Must also have the ability to proactively monitor and control task status by collecting and analyzing task data to anticipate and address barriers

  • Strong communication, interpersonal skills, customer service skills, customer focus

  • Coaches and mentors team members on business processes and in testing

  • Consistently prioritizes safety and security of self, others, and personal data.

  • Embraces diverse people, thinking, and styles.

  • Possesses a high school diploma, GED, or high school equivalency.

  • Is at least 18 years of age and has authorization to work in the United States.
