The Jacobs-led team will serve as MARTA's CPMO Supplemental Services Consultant and manage the construction aspects. A joint venture between Jacobs and H. J. Russell & Company was selected to support the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) as it embarks on its expansion program. This position will be hired through the Joint Venture Subconsultant Program versus Jacobs. Please note that sponsorship is not available for this position.

Summary of position:

The Traffic Engineer will utilize their expertise by designing and reviewing intersection and traffic design projects according to MARTA’s standards and plan development processes. We’ll look to you to develop, oversee, and manage traffic studies, traffic engineering reports, signal plans, crash analyses, and other traffic engineering tasks.

Key Responsibilities:

You will perform various tasks as a traffic engineer, including traffic signal and ITS design, traffic signal timing/operations, traffic engineering studies, and Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) communications. MARTA regularly performs hands-on signal operations work, so you will have the opportunity to program and troubleshoot traffic signals and ITS communications network equipment.

Other duties consist of:

  • Assessing the performance of traffic signals and communications equipment and preparing reports.

  • Managing consultants performing data collection, traffic studies, reports, and models (i.e., Synchro, VISSIM)

  • Coordination with internal MARTA stakeholders and external stakeholders (i.e., GDOT, local counties, and jurisdictions)

  • Supporting planning and implementation of transit signal priority (TSP)

  • Performing design, programming, troubleshooting, and repair of traffic signal and communications equipment and preparing related reports.

  • Effectively managing assigned projects/tasks and managing task activities and schedules.

  • Managing client expectations to ensure the client is delighted with the project(s).

  • Mentoring/training junior staff

  • Developing new business by fostering existing and new client relationships

  • Periodic travel is required within Georgia and neighboring states.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Electrical Engineering, Building Construction, Construction Management, or a related field.

  • Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license.

  • A certified Professional Engineer (PE) license is required.

Ideally, you'll also have:

  • To be eligible for this position, you must have 7 to 10 years of professional experience in traffic operations engineering.

  • Additionally, you must possess a valid civil, mechanical, electrical, or general professional engineering license and pass an examination. Previous experience with MicroStation or AutoCAD is mandatory.

This position requires the individual to report to the Planning Director.
