JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title:Educational Technician

Reports To:Director of the Early Learning Center

Department: Early Learning Center

Summary of Position:

The Educational Technician will be responsible for assisting the teacher in implementing the classroom program which fosters the emotional, social, physical, language and cognitive development of each child. This position may provide classroom support or serve as a one-on-one aide.

Essential Responsibilities: (other duties as assigned)

Works under the guidance and direction of the teacher to ensure growth in child development and classroom skills.

Assists the teacher in planning and implementing a daily age appropriate program that meets the needs of groups of children as well as individuals, providing for their health, safety and education.

Ensures the safety of children at all times and supervises accordingly.

Keeps written observations, Specially Designed Instruction daily notes, plan of care and all other documentation requested, on the child(ren) assigned.

Meets regularly with the teacher to assist in planning and implementing a daily program for the special needs child(ren) and meeting the individual needs as described in the child(ren)s Individual Education Program.

Works closely with consultant/therapists assigned to the program in order to provide the most appropriate program for children. (i.e. Child Development Services, speech therapists, occupational therapists, physical therapists, psychologists, teachers of the blind, teachers of the deaf, mental health providers, health and nutrition consultants, childrens case managers).

Promotes and models good health habits (hand washing, tooth brushing, etc.).

Assists in integrating health and safety education into the classroom.

Recognizes and reports any signs of illness and other concerns to the Teacher or Director of Early Learning Center.

Assists in maintaining a clean, safe, and developmentally appropriate environment for children.

Assists Teacher in orienting parents and other volunteers as needed. Encourages parent participation and visitation in the classroom, attends parent meetings as requested and/or provides child care as needed.

Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with the center staff, parents and community.

Encourages parents to participate in the program and helps facilitate that involvement.

Engages in ongoing staff development to support continued growth in personal and professional skills.

Assumes classroom responsibility in absence of the teacher as assigned.

Participates in trainings, workshops, staff meetings or other related meetings as requested.

Attends Individual Education Program (IEP) meetings as requested.

Works cooperatively as a team member, assisting where needed in the center including, but not limited to sharing general housekeeping duties with other staff members.

Practices reliability and dependability and maintains a professional attitude in all respects of employment.
