General Summary

The Mason will be responsible for working with various materials on a job site, specifically stone, concrete, and tile. The use of bricks, concrete blocks, concrete, and other natural and manmade stones to build walkways, walls, fences, and several other masonry structures. They may need to be able to build items needed and can identify serious issues like cracks in mortar or water damage from tiny fissures between stones.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensuring that surfaces are well-prepared before beginning a job.

  • Cutting, shaping, and dressing materials as well as installing materials on needed locations

  • fabricating: maintaining, altering, and repairing of walls, sidewalks, street curbs, floors, sink counters, bathroom showers, and other related structures or surfaces.

  • Operating equipment such as a forklift, dump truck, and flatbed

  • Reading blueprints and drawings to accurately calculate materials needed.

  • Making sure all expansion joints are filled with appropriate caulking materials.

  • Ensuring that surfaces are cleaned and polished with the necessary hand or power tools.

  • Laying out patterns, forms, or foundations following plans

  • Staying up to date with all safety procedures and regulations, and following them rigorously

  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Experience and Skill Requirements

  • Proficient written and oral communication skills according to skill requirements

  • Possess strong computer skills, able to read, write, and comprehend written instructional documents.

  • Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment.

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide into all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.

  • Ability to apply concepts of introductory algebra and geometry

  • Must be able to successfully pass as required a federal, state, or local government's background investigation.

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • At least 5 years of related experience required.

Work Environment

  • Prolonged period of standing, bending, reaching, and working with hands

  • Occasional periods of prolonged exposure to loud noises

  • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds at times.

  • Ability to stand, walk, and reach with arms and hands as necessary.

  • Ability to hear and see to position and safety requirement levels.

  • Occasional exposure to elements such as heat, cold, noise, dust, dirt, and chemicals
