Pearson Assistant Manager Instructional Facilitation in Augusta, Maine

Purpose Summary

The Literacy Specialist collaborates with other specialists as part of the Academic Impact Team within Pearson Virtual School (PVS). This team is dedicated to enhancing educational outcomes by developing specialized programs aimed at training and advancing evidence-based literacy best practice for virtual learning. The Literacy Specialist is an expert in the PVS Science of Reading framework and focuses on training and influencing school leadership teams and teachers as they incorporate best practice in school improvement planning and daily instruction. The Literacy Specialist collaborates with Partner Success team members and Instructional Partners to assist schools in the implementation of evidence-based strategies. The Literacy Specialist plays a critical role in supporting the PVS commitment to achieving established learner outcomes.

Core Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Develops, coordinates and facilitates training and professional development to schools in order to build capacity in the area of literacy grounded in the Science of Reading research

  • Collaborates with project management to create and implement the PVS wide literacy road map

  • Works to coordinate efforts with literacy champions at Partner Schools

  • Creates and implements resource groups targeting literacy instructional strategy and best practice at Partner Schools

  • Facilitates training for internal and external stakeholders on topics related to supporting schools in their literacy efforts

  • Creates and facilitates webinars for Learning Coaches targeting literacy skills and curriculum

  • Acts as internal literacy consultant and Science of Reading expert for PVS teams

  • Identifies research-based literacy tools, instructional strategies and other techniques to improve reading in partnership with Research & Efficacy

  • Assists with the implementation of school based assessments, academic interventions and individual literacy strategies

  • Research state literacy requirements and understand the impact to PVS schools

  • Works collaboratively with members of the Academic Squad and other key teams to advocate for literacy initiatives

  • Other duties as assigned

Required Skills, Experience, and Competencies

  • Minimum of 5 years of work experience, specific to literacy in education and Master’s Degree preferred

  • Excellent software skills, Nearpod, Map, Renaissance, sand with Microsoft Office

  • Strong analytical skills

  • Excellent interpersonal, and communication skills

  • Strong facilitation skills with the ability to navigate difficult conversations

  • Experience with change management

  • Superior listening and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to work effectively both with and without supervision

  • Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships at all levels of the organization

  • Must thrive in a fast-paced, constantly changing environment, with ability to manage multiple, competing priorities

  • Demonstrated ability to learn quickly and work well in team environment

Key relationships

  • Works closely with other members of the Academic Impact Department, including the Product Specialists, the Math Specialist, the Leadership Specialist, and the Instructional Coaching Specialist

  • Works closely with various Curriculum and Product team members, including the Research and Efficacy Team

  • Collaborates with key assessment and curricular teams on the Science of Reading

  • Partners with Service Delivery Pod members and the Partner Success Team
