Job Summary:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist ASK Follow-up Coordinators and study team with conducting all aspects of study protocol.

  • Performs various administrative and operational duties involved in clinical research recruitment, data collection and documentation, education and monitoring of participants.

  • Tracks, coordinates and conducts follow-up visits

  • Implements clinical research data collection protocols, including phlebotomy, clinical measurements, and interviews with children and their parents.

  • Educates parents and children on pathophysiology and signs/symptoms of type 1 diabetes and celiac disease, home-glucose monitoring with glucometer and continuous glucose monitor (CGM).

  • Performs Oral Glucose Tolerance Tests (OGTTs) and Continuous Glucose Monitor (CGM) placement.

  • Interpret, review and discuss study results with study investigators and study participants

  • Supports other bilingual clinical staff in translation of study documents and development of culturally specific strategies to ensure understanding and adherence to the study protocol by Spanish speaking family members.

  • Adheres to and participates in ensuring the integrity of data collected. Reviews and resolves incomplete or missing data/documents to ensure accuracy and completeness of data.

Minimum Qualifications:

Intermediate Professional:

  • Bachelor's degree in any field

  • One (1) year clinical research or related experience

  • Spanish reading, writing and speaking fluency required.

Senior Professional:

  • Bachelor's degree in any field

  • Two (2) years of clinical research or related experience

  • Spanish reading, writing and speaking fluency required.

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in science or health related field

  • Two (2) years of clinical research or related experience

  • Pediatric phlebotomy/IV experience or willingness to complete competency within 3 months of hire.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge and understanding of federal regulations and Good Clinical Practice (GCP)

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally

A full-time Research Service Professional (RSP) position is available at the Barbara Davis Center for Diabetes-Clinical Epidemiology Division. This position will support the ASK Education and Monitoring Follow-up clinical team. The RSP be responsible for study recruitment, stages of type 1 diabetes education, and communicating the importance of monitoring to prevent complications at diagnosis. The RSP will conduct local and remote/telehealth study visits with the participants to monitor them for progression to a T1D diagnosis and/or inform study participants of clinical trial or treatment options to delay onset. A successful candidate will professionally collaborate with the study team of researchers and investigators to effectively monitor and educate study participants.

– this role is expected to work onsite and is located at the Barbara Davis Center for Diabetes on CU Anschutz Medical Campus. The work schedule is 8-5 Monday-Friday. This position will need to be available one evening a week and one Saturday a month to conduct study visits.

The Barbara Davis Center for Diabetes (BDC) specializes in type 1 diabetes research and care for children and adults. Clinicians, clinical researchers, and basic biomedical scientists collaborate at the BDC to find the most effective treatment, prevention, and cure for type 1 diabetes. Founded by Marvin and Barbara Davis in 1978, it is currently one of the largest diabetes institutes in the world. The Center provides state of the art care to over 7,500 children and adults with diabetes as well as provides inpatient care to patients seen at Children's Hospital Colorado. The Autoimmunity Screening for Kids (ASK) Program is a jointly funded research project from Breakthrough T1D (formerly known as the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF)) and the Helmsley Charitable Trust (HCT) to continue a large-scale screening in children and adults who live in the United States. The study aims to identify those at risk for two childhood autoimmune diseases--type 1 diabetes (T1D) and celiac disease (CD). Children identified to be at risk for T1D are offered enrollment into the ASK Education and Monitoring Follow-up study with the goal of preventing acute and long-term complications associated with diagnosis.
