Job Overview

The Cardiac Sonographer Associate, under supervision, performs routine clinical echocardiographic studies for congenital heart disease on patients ranging from neonatal to adult.The Sonographer will receive mentoring and training to be able to obtain proficiency, competency, and knowledge in the field of pediatric echocardiography.

Qualifications

Education:High School Diploma or GED. Associate degree and or graduate of an accredited formal Diagnostic Medical Sonography or Cardiovascular Technology Program is required. Experience:Preferred specialized course work (or equivalent) in pediatrics. Certification(s): Obtain the Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS); or Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) credential within one year from the date of program graduation. Pediatric Registry required within 12-18 months upon hire: Pediatric Echocardiography (PE) through ARDMS or Registered Congenital Cardiac Sonographer (RCCS) through CCI BLS/CPR from the American Heart Association with at least 6 months left before expiration is required upon hire.

Responsibilities

POPULATION SPECIFIC CARE Neonate - 30 days to 1yr Toddlers - >1yr to 3yrs Preschoolers - >3yrs to 5yrs School age - >5yrs to 13yrs Adolescent - >13yrs to 18yrs Adult - >18yrs to 65yrs ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following essential functions. These examples do not include all of the functions which the employee may be expected to perform. Performs clinical echocardiographic (echo) studies, while supervised, on newborns to adults for congenital heart disease with a routine degree of difficulty. Completes echocardiography studies strictly following departmental sequence and protocol. Prepares preliminary summaries of the echocardiography findings for cardiologist interpretation providing documentation f observed echo findings. Performs routine transthoracic echocardiograms on pediatric patients. May perform transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) in the catheterization (cath) lab and operating room. Under supervision, learns and performs special procedures as ordered to include, but not limited to, contrast and microbubble studies, transplants, Tissue Doppler imaging (TDI), and research echocardiograms.
