Job Overview

Ensures safe, appropriate, and economical use of drugs through the application of specialized skills and knowledge in pediatric patient care. The Clinical Pharmacist Specialist General Medicine is an integral team member of the pharmacist competency group. This Pharmacist rotates through various specialties such as pulmonology, acute pain/surgery, solid organ transplant, psychiatry, neurology, and general medicine. The Pharmacist rounds with the multidisciplinary care team, performs therapeutic drug monitoring, makes therapeutic recommendations, provides patient education, precepts, and much more. The Department of Pharmacy provides comprehensive clinical services to patients at Children's Hospital Colorado. We have organized clinical pharmacy services that complement the team approach to providing care. Our clinical pediatric pharmacists are available 24 hours a day and help ensure the safe and effective use of medication in children - as well as promote health, wellness and disease prevention. Our specially-trained pharmacists work with physicians and other healthcare professionals to determine the best medication regimen and monitoring plan for the pediatric patient. Clinical pharmacy services are integrated into virtually all inpatient care units as designated pharmacists round with the medical teams. Through this direct involvement, pharmacists are empowered to assist in a great deal of therapeutic decision making and therapeutic drug monitoring activities.

Additional Information

Department: Pharmacy Hours per week:40, eligible for benefits Shift: Monday - Friday, days/evenings. Every 3rd weekend rotating and selected holidays.

Qualifications

Education: Doctor of Pharmacy or Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy degree. Experience: Two (2) years of residency experience or one (1) year of residency plus three (3) years of work experience. Equivalency: Three (3) years of pharmacy work experience in area of specialty accepted in lieu of 2nd year of residency. Certifications: Board of Pharmacy Specialties (BPS) Certification required within 3 years of star date in position. Licensure: State of Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA) Pharmacy license.
