Job Summary:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Direct the preparation of annual Center budgets and oversee their execution through the year.

  • Manage the current year's Center budgets, forecast budget vs. actual spending and reconcile expenses to the general ledger.

  • Oversee and direct fiscal activity including development and management of operating and capital budgets, administration of grants and contracts, payroll administration, purchasing, travel and inventory management.

  • Ensure appropriate financial controls and fiduciary stewardship, determine areas vulnerable from an audit perspective and develop plans/recommendation to strengthen those areas.

  • Prepare invoices using iLabs for customers as needed.

  • Prepare annual cost study, budget, and propose prices.

  • Oversee purchasing activities including delegation of purchasing responsibilities and adherence to purchasing policy, acquisition of capital equipment items and major capital building/renovation, and negotiation of leases.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in accounting, business administration, health care management or a closely related field from an accredited institution

  • A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the master's degree on a year-for-year basis.

  • Four (4) years of experience in finance, accounting, and financial analysis

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience forecasting, monitoring, and reconciling budgets, financial reports, data, and information.

  • Experience working with PeopleSoft HRMS/HCM/Finance.

  • Professional level management experience within a complex health-related research setting.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution.

  • Outstanding customer service skills.

  • Demonstrated commitment and leadership ability to advance diversity and inclusion.

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Excel and financial data reporting.

  • Ability to prepare accurate financial reports and present findings to program leadership.

  • Demonstrated administration/management abilities in a healthcare/biomedical research environment.

  • Skill in problem solving and troubleshooting financial and human resource issues.

  • Excellent time-management, organizational, interpersonal, and effective communication skills required for success in this position.

  • Ability to manage complex, sensitive, and confidential information and align multiple, competing demands with established priorities.

  • Ability to learn and use Concur, UPI Cor360, PeopleSoft Finance, CU Data, CU Marketplace, HCM, CU Careers, iLabs, and other University business applications as needed.

  • Ability to successfully manage multiple self-directed projects that may, at times, have competing priorities.

  • Strong attention to detail, balanced with ability to maintain a broad perspective.

  • Thorough knowledge of State and University fiscal and human resource policies.
