Job Overview

The Registered Nurse Medication Safety Specialist serves as a technical resource on medication safety matters specific to ensuring medications are safely administered through technology implementation, health care provider education, data analysis and collaboration; provides program support, developing and implementing projects to meet specific medication safety goals; and facilitates interactions with other clinical areas to champion medication safety, incorporating best practices into clinical practice.

Additional Information

Department: Medication Safety (Pharmacy) Hours per week: 40, eligible for benefits Shift: Monday - Friday, 8am-5pm. Work hours may vary depending on the need of the department. *This is a hybrid role.

Qualifications

EDUCATION - Bachelor of Science in Nursing EXPERIENCE - Three (3)years of clinical experience working as a nurse in a hospital setting. LICENSURE - Licensed Nurse in the state of Colorado

Responsibilities

POPULATION SPECIFIC CARE No direct patient care. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all the following essential functions. These examples do not include all the functions which the employee may be expected to perform. Supports the development, implementation, and monitoring of the medication safety program in conjunction with Pharmacy, Nursing, and Physician Leadership. Contributes to annual goals for the program and identifies projects/initiatives that align with and support these goals. Chairs/co-chairs, facilitates, or participates on safe medication practices committees including, but not limited to infusion pump committee, medication safety committee, and additional hospital committees as requested. Completes the review, analysis and follow-up of medication administration related adverse events and near misses as reported into QSRS. Supports post event reviews, root cause analyses and failure modes and effects analysis consistent with the hospital's approach to these funct ons. Creates metric targets and measurements of success at the unit, program, and organization level specific to medication administration practices. Partners with the quality management specialists, pharmacy staff and other leaders on administration focused medication safety related improvement projects based on data and trends identified through QSRS and other sources of information. Partners with the accreditation readiness specialist on planning to meet regulatory requirements related to medication safety. Conducts general medication safety training and provides staff education specific to safe medication administration practices. Promotes and facilitates a just culture.
