Salvation Army Community Meal Coordinator in Austin, Minnesota
Position Summary The Salvation Army Austin Corps is doing the most good by providing holistic, person-centered services to individuals and families in need. In addition to worship services and pastoral care, services include short and long-term case management; food, clothing, utility, rent, and housing support; and connections to community partners. The Community Meal Coordinator manages the community meal program, ensuring a welcoming atmosphere and respectful, dignified treatment of all guests. The program serves evening dinners for 50 to 100 participants Monday through Friday and packages additional take-out meals. The Coordinator oversees meal planning, preparations, compliance, cleanliness, and supervision of the Community Meal staff and volunteers. 30 hours/week, $21.80 - $30.00/hour Essential Functions (approximate time spent) Oversee the Community Meal program and volunteers, including leading meal preparation, meal service, clean-up, and preparing take-out meals, ensuring food to participants is not denied. (50%) Ensure the safety and cleanliness of the kitchen and dining areas, including storage and equipment. (10%) Order, schedule, and receive food and supply deliveries (purchased and donated), checking contents and verifying product quality, content, and quantity. (10%) Plan menus and food utilization based on the anticipated number of meals, nutritional value, donated and purchased food available, and budgetary constraints. (10%) Maintain an up-to-date inventory of food items and track required statistics. (5%) Coordinate maintenance, repairs, and improvements to food service areas and equipment. (5%) Ensure compliance with all relevant government and funder regulations and requirements. (5%) Assist with expanding food-related program offerings, engaging in community outreach, and liaising with community agencies to support community needs and enhance food rescue efforts and donations. (5%) Education and Experience High School diploma or equivalent required. Must possess an MN Food Protection Certification or be able to obtain it within 60 days of employment. The Salvation Army will support the procurement of the certification. Three years of relevant experience required. Previous supervision experience is highly preferred. Must pass background checks, possess a valid driver's license, and meet MVR requirements. Competencies Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, especially with participants of diverse backgrounds. Working knowledge of food service, nutritional guidelines, and kitchen management. Ability to use PC, Microsoft Office, and databases. Working Conditions Moderate physical work and must be able to lift 50 pounds are required. Professional environment; not eligible for a remote-friendly work environment. Must be able to stand for reasonable periods. Must communicate clearly.
