STATE SECURITIES BOARD Attorney I (#2-25) in AUSTIN, Texas
T
he attorney performs complex legal workin the Registration Division and in the Inspections and Compliance Divisionas part of a team of attorneys focused on enforcement and compliance issuesrelated to registered dealers, agents, investment advisers, and investmentadviser representatives. Work includes preparing and negotiating settlements ondisciplinary cases with registrants/attorneys; preparing and prosecuting casesbefore the State Office of Administrative Hearings, including drafting andfiling of pleadings, preparation of witnesses, including expert witnesses,taking of depositions, presentingevidence/witnesses to support allegations of violations of the TexasSecurities Act; participating and preparing documentation/pleadings andparticipating in post-hearing proceedings, including the appeals process. Cases often involve complex legal issuesrequiring extensive knowledge of the securities industry; works under general supervisionwith considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.In certain cases, the attorney will conduct investigations of registereddealers, agents, investment advisers, and investment adviserrepresentatives. Finally, this positionwill participate in providing legal advice to the Registration and
Inspectionsand Compliance examination staff and management on a regular basis.
- The attorneywill be supervised from the Austin office and report directly to the DeputySecurities Commissioner, but remote work and other branch office locations inCorpus Christi, Dallas, and Houston are available. Applicants must reside inTexas.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (License, Education, Experience)
:
Graduation from accredited law school with a J.D. Degree and licensedto practice law in Texas. Reliable transportation required.
PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
:
1-2 years' experience in the practice of administrative, regulatory orsecurities law, or prosecutorial experience OR strong course load in securitieslaw from a top law school.
