Job Summary of the Echo Technologist
According to unit and hospital policies and procedures, the Echo Sonographer is responsible for the performance of non-invasive cardiovascular procedures of adult echocardiography. This position works closely with other healthcare team members to facilitate exceptional patient care and efficient completion of diagnostic studies while also promoting optimal unit operations. The Echo Sonographer adheres to the customer service standards while maintaining a clean, efficient, and safe work environment. Responsibilities of the Echo Technologist
Demonstrate an effective working knowledge of all equipment used in Cardiology and related to their job functions.
Demonstrate competency in arrhythmia interpretation.
Perform complete 2-dimensional, color flow, and Spectral Doppler exams according to protocol.
Notify physicians of any positive findings that need attention prior to patient’s release.
Perform necessary equipment checks and QC procedure and reports equipment malfunctions to supervisor. Maintain adequate supply of materials for vascular lab.
Assist in scheduling of patients, work in additional patients, and make scheduling aware of cancellations or optimize examination availability.
Review and revise lab protocol to maintain a high level of efficiency. Recommend changes to supervisor.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications of the Echo Technologist
EDUCATION:
- Associate Degree in an Ultrasound Technology education program
EXPERIENCE:
- One year of experience as a Sonographer or equivalent work experience
LICENSES & CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) through American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or Registered Cardiovascular Sonographer (RCS) through Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI)
Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
