Avride Inc. Mechanical Design Engineer in Austin, Texas

JOB DUTIES:

  • Develop innovative mechanical designs for autonomous vehicles, considering factors such as functionality, safety, and manufacturability.
  • Lead the development of prototypes from initial concept to testing, collaborating with cross-functional teams including electrical engineers, software engineers, and designers.
  • Research and select appropriate materials and components for vehicle systems, ensuring compliance with project specifications and industry standards.
  • Utilize CAD software to create detailed 3D models and perform simulations to analyze the performance and behavior of vehicle components and systems.
  • Plan and conduct tests to validate the performance and durability of mechanical designs, interpreting test results to iterate and refine designs as necessary.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing partners to ensure smooth transition from prototype to production, providing guidance on design for manufacturability and assembly (DFMA).
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of design iterations, test results, and design decisions, and prepare reports and presentations for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Stay updated on advancements in autonomous vehicle technology and mechanical engineering best practices and integrate new knowledge into design processes to enhance vehicle performance and efficiency.
  • Collaborate with external suppliers to source components, negotiate contracts, and ensure timely delivery of parts while maintaining quality standards and cost-effectiveness.
  • Conduct risk assessments on mechanical designs, identifying potential failure points or safety hazards, and implement mitigation strategies to ensure the reliability and safety of autonomous vehicles.
  • Work closely with electrical engineers, software developers, and other stakeholders to integrate mechanical systems with electronic and software components, ensuring seamless functionality of autonomous vehicle systems.
  • Explore cost-saving opportunities in mechanical design without compromising quality or performance, including value engineering, material substitution, and process improvements.
  • Prepare detailed technical documentation, including design specifications, assembly instructions, and maintenance manuals, to support manufacturing, assembly, and servicing of autonomous vehicles.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

:

Education: Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
