Job Title: Pre-K Teacher Assistant [PT]

Department: TPS Austin

Reports to: Campus Directorand Assigned Teacher

Effective Date: ASAP

Job Summary:

The Teacher Assistant is responsible for assisting the teacher in the preparation and management of classroom activities and administrative requirements. Working under the supervision of Lead Teacher, they must be able to demonstrate an understanding of classroom management and behavioral management systems, providing a classroom atmosphere of safety for intellectual, social, and emotional, as well as physical growth for all scholars.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  1. Uphold and enforce school rules, administrative regulations, and state and local board policy.
  2. Assist the teacher in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays.
  3. Work with individual students or groups to conduct instructional exercises assigned by the teacher.
  4. Assist with the administration and scoring of objective testing instruments or work assignments.
  5. Assist in supervising students throughout the school day, both inside and outside the classroom.
  6. Keep the teacher informed of any special needs or problems of individual students.
  7. Assist in maintaining a neat and orderly classroom.
  8. Assist in inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment.
  9. Assist the teacher in keeping administrative records and preparing required reports.
  10. Participate in staff development training programs, faculty meetings, and special events, as needed.
  11. Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.
  12. Maintain positive interaction with staff, students, and parents.
  13. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Ability to work well with children.
  • Knowledge of general school office equipment.
  • Communication skills (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills.
  • Fluent in English and Spanish (Bilingual/ESL assistant only).
  • Experience working with children.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Must be able to pass a background and fingerprint check.

Education and Experience:

  • Education/Certification: High school diploma or GED.
  • Valid Texas educational aide certificate.
  • Associate's degree, completion of 48 College Credit Hours, or have met the formal academic assessment required by No child Left Behind Act.

Physical Requirements:

  • Maintain emotional control under stress; frequent standing, stooping, bending, pulling, and pushing.
  • Move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom equipment.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at a time.

Classification:Exempt, Part-time

Days:Monday - Friday

Normal Weekday Hours:8:00 am - 1:00 pm Monday - Friday

Compensation:$15,000
