SAM LLC Senior Geospatial Technical Manager in Austin, Texas

Your Impact at SAM

This position is responsible for contributing to growth via workflow and technology development that advances the use of remote sensing solutions within SAM. The SAM Aerial Mapping Business Unit utilizes remote sensing technologies and workflows to produce deliverables for both internal and external clients across many market sectors including electric, oil and gas, transportation, and inspection.

SAM has a longstanding commitment to staying at the forefront of remote sensing technologies. The aerial mapping business unit operates 6 airborne mapping systems consisting of Riegl LiDAR sensors equipped with medium format cameras and 1 large format camera. The aerial mapping business unit also operates two UAS airborne mapping systems featuring Riegl LiDAR sensors paired with small format cameras mounted to heavy lift UAV’s, one Riegl Mobile Mapping System, Trimble and Leica HDS scanners, and various other UAS platforms integrated with RGB and thermal cameras.

Responsibilities and tasks may include:

  • Solve technology challenges with geospatial software and workflows solutions

  • Work with Project management and Team Leads to identify and improve remote sensing data production workflows via automation utilizing macro development, scripting, AI, and programming in support of automation of geospatial workflows

  • Design Remote Sensing project technical approaches for projects utilizing multiple sensors (LiDAR, Small Format non metric cameras, medium/large format metric cameras, Thermal cameras, etc.) and multiple acquisition platforms (Terrestrial HDS, ground based Mobile, Rotary Winged, Fixed Wing, and Unmanned Aerial Systems)

  • Assist the Remote Sensing Acquisition Manager(s) in maintaining and troubleshooting issues associated with all sensors operated by SAM.

  • Support Remote Sensing Acquisition Crews with workflow development, training, and troubleshooting

  • Assist SAM project managers with technical project design and technical writing for remote sensing project pursuits.

  • Design, process, and serve as QC manager for conventional survey and GPS data collected in support of remote sensing projects

  • Assist with troubleshooting remote sensing data calibration (Airborne LiDAR, Mobile LiDAR, Terrestrial HDS, Aerial Triangulation, and/or UAS autocorrelation)

  • Perform advanced level troubleshooting on challenging remote sensing projects

  • Research, develop, and implement next generation geospatial technologies

What You Bring to SAM

  • 8+ years of experience in the Geospatial/Surveying industry

  • Excellent computer and technical skills, including proficiency with AutoCAD, ArcGIS, MicroStation, Terrasolid, Trimble Business Center, PosPac, Agisoft/Pix4D, FME

  • Strong technical writing/communication skills

  • Ability to evaluate and implement new pieces of geospatial software. The software evaluation and implementation process includes initial research and identification of software packages, development of software specific workflows, and development of adjustments to existing overall geospatial workflows to accommodate the new pieces of software.

  • Ability to document geospatial workflows and train technical staff to execute those workflows.

  • Proficiency with programming/macro/script development to solve geospatial problems and automate geospatial workflows.

  • Field and Office Processing experience of conventional survey and GPS data

  • Geospatial Field acquisition experience (utilizing HDS, terrestrial mobile mapping, Airborne, and/or Unmanned Aerial Systems sensors and platforms)

  • Certifications and/or Licensing Requirements:

  • CMS, LS, CP, or similiar licensure/certifications
