American Institutes for Research Senior Technical Assistance Consultant, Indigenous Education in Austin, Texas

Overview

AIR is seeking a Senior Technical Assistance Consultant to join the Education Systems team within our Human Services division. This position will contribute to a variety of technical assistance federal and state projects focused on K-12 education systems. Over the next several years, AIR will engage in Tribal consultation with Tribes, state-level Indian education advisory boards, and/or Tribal education agencies (TEAs) in a dozen states to determine their technical assistance needs and build out one or more projects to meet those needs.

This position has the flexibility to work remotely within the United States (U.S.) or from one of our U.S. office locations . This does not include U.S. territories.

Responsibilities

  • Indigenous education leadership: managing workflow, managing staff and subject matter expert performance, deliverables development and delivery

  • Client-facing presentation and meetings

  • Translating research and best practices into policy development and TA implementation tools and materials

  • Creating high-level action plans to implement TA solutions

  • Overseeing the development of implementation guides, tutorials, train-the-trainer guides, and other “how to” materials

  • Designing, developing, and implementing onsite and virtual training and technical assistance throughout the United States

  • Working with a diverse team, managing project tasks, technical expertise, and supervision of project staff

  • Reviewing, analyzing, and synthesizing information using appropriate practices and techniques

  • Disseminating findings through publication of papers, progress and technical reports and presentation of seminars

  • Acting as an advisory resource to provide comprehensive information, teaching and technical assistance to grantee sites

  • Evaluating effectiveness of services being provided and makes recommendations for change as needed or warranted

Qualifications

Education, Knowledge, and Experience:

  • Master’s degree in education or related field with a minimum of 7 years of experience in Indigenous education or Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 9 years of experience

  • Experience working with American Indian and Alaska Native Tribes and TEAs

  • Experience working with state education agencies (SEAs)

  • At least 5 years of experience in the development and delivery of professional development and TA and project/program management

  • Familiarity with best practices in Tribal consultation (both big and little "C")

  • Familiarity with the U.S. public K-12 education system

Skills:

  • Ability to engage professionally with diverse groups, including AIR staff, consultant facilitators, clients, and event participants

  • Proven ability to coordinate and execute complex tasks while collaborating with both internal and external partners to achieve objectives

  • Excellent team collaboration, communication, and customer service skills

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy in writing

  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with individuals at all levels and from varied backgrounds

Disclosures:

This position is open to U.S. citizens only. Upon hire, incumbent will be required to obtain clearance through the Electronic Questionnaires for Investigations Processing (e-QIP) system .

Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the U.S. on a full-time basis. Employment-based visa sponsorship (including H-1B sponsorship) is not available for this position. Depending on project work, qualified candidates may need to meet certain residency requirements.

AIR’s Total Rewards Program , is designed to reward our staff competitively and motivate them to achieve our critical mission. This position offers an anticipated annual salary of $130,000. Salary offers are made based on internal equity within the institution and external equity with competitive markets. Please note this is the annual salary range for candidates that are based in the United States.
