About the Role
We currently have an internship opportunity based in our Austin, TX office. As an intern you will provide valuable support for ongoing and upcoming Transmission Systems Engineering and EMS projects, helping the department meet critical deadlines. You will be able to assist in EMS upgrades, PI implementation, network model tuning, and substation integration, offering technical help and filling resource gaps. Additionally, by working alongside system engineers, System Operators, and Substation Engineers, you will gain foundational knowledge in power systems and SCADA operations, which aligns with the industry's need for skilled professionals. This mutually beneficial arrangement not only enhances project success but also nurtures future talent for the power and energy sector.
Responsibilities
What you will do:
Help with EMS Upgrade project with respect to System Integration, Network Modeling, PI Historian configuration
Assist in CAPE system modeling by creating and validating system models for protection studies.
Conduct research on IEC 61850 Sampled Values, exploring the transition to this protocol for substation communication.
Develop SCADA design templates and guides, improving standardization and efficiency for system engineers.
Support the design and update of P&C drawing standards and design guides for substation projects.
Assist in updating control center database, alarms including one-line displays. server configuration, and graphics updates for EMS.
Learn and assist with CTT Network Model Overview, including building basic CIM models.
Collect and document system parameters and one-lines for network model tuning and system documentation.
Qualifications

Are currently pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
Bring knowledge of power systems or SCADA concepts (preferred).
Possess strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Are self-motivated, disciplined, and equipped with the skills needed to succeed in this role.
Demonstrate excellent communication, organization, and critical thinking abilities, along with a strong understanding of modern software applications and document management strategies.
Ideally, you also have:
- Knowledge of electric utility business principles, compliance programs, and operations.
