GENERAL DESCRIPTION Our mission at the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles (TxDMV) is to serve, protect and advance the citizens and industries in the state with quality motor vehicle related services. We are a dynamic state agency dedicated to customer service, consumer protection and the success of motor vehicle-related industries. Performs or assists with building maintenance and construction work. Work involves the maintaining and repairing of buildings, utility systems and stationery equipment, and operating motorized equipment. Provide accurate material and supplies list required to conduct maintenance operations. Escort, and provide access to contractors, general labor forces, and various project teams when required. Work on and maintain records within the facility workorder systems Works under direct supervision with latitude for the use of initiative and some independent judgment. ESSENTIAL DUTIES Conducts routine maintenance or repairs based on assigned work orders. Performs general and preventative maintenance on facility systems. Reports findings and problems during maintenance walk throughs to supervisor. Maintains records on all assigned work orders, monitor status, provide updates, and closes them out when completed. Assists in replacement of flush valves, water filters, and service water fountains. Assists in replacing lighting, switches, and outlets. Performs checks on motors and belts and handles lubrication duties. Changes filters and replaces parts as they wear out. Will replace faulty or expired parts on various facility equipment. Assists in repairs of motors and assessing the condition of hot water boilers. Assists in ordering supplies or equipment needed for maintenance or installation. May be required to respond to emergency situations and answer calls during non-standard work hours and after hours. Assists with inventory and maintenance of tools and equipment. Hangs pictures, white boards, TVs, move or set up furniture, and prepares for agency meetings. Travels up to 5% of the time. Travels by car or truck (may include flying). May include overnight travel. May require working extended hours and some evenings and weekends, as needed. Required to attend work regularly and adhere to approved work hours in accordance with department policies and procedures. Will work in a variety of trades and will demonstrate the ability to learn and grow technical skills. Required to use Microsoft office including Teams and is required to attend meetings. Performs other related duties as assigned. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES Able to learn how to read and interpret controls, electrical drawings, blueprints, schematic diagrams, and system operation/installation manuals. Able to organize and prioritize assigned tasks with little supervision. Must be able to assess repair situations and determine the best course of action, reporting to Facility Manager when necessary. Must have basic knowledge of Microsoft office (spreadsheets, word, outlook, teams). Must be able to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, contractors, and the public Working knowledge of plumbing, electrical and carpentry. understanding of applicable code requirements. Qualifications: MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Education and Experience Graduation from a High School or completed GED plus at least 1.5 years of any trade experience. (Applicable education (trade school) can be substituted for trade experience on a year per year basis.) Preferred Requirements Three years in any trade work. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION PHYSICAL/WORKING CONDITIONS Required to work Monday-Friday, 8 hours a day, 40 hours a week, on-site at Headquarters location in Austin, Texas. Must be physically able to operate a motor vehicle. Must be able to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 25 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Requires the ability to maintain body equilibrium when bending, stooping, crouching, climbing, reaching and/or stretching arms, legs or other parts of body to grasp, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Physical requirements are for Heavy Work. Work is performed both inside and outside. When inside, employees are exposed to normal office temperatures and noise. When outside, employees may be required to work and be exposed to seasonal inclement weather. Work typically involves standing and walking for extended periods of time. Non-smoking environment in State buildings and vehicles. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential job duty satisfactorily and comply with the Physical/Working Conditions with or without reasonable accommodation. REGISTRATION, CERTIFICATION AND/OR LICENSURE A valid Class "C" driver's license is required. If not currently a Texas resident, must obtain a Texas Driver's License within 90 days after entering Texas as a new resident. A satisfactory driving record is required for operating state or personal vehicles to conduct department business.
