The Maryland Department of Transportation Transit Administration (MDOT MTA) invites you to apply today to be considered for a position that provides customer service to the citizens of Maryland every day. The MTA is one of the largest transit systems in the United States and is seeking dynamic and energetic individuals to join the MTA team.
The Maryland Department of Transportation Maryland Transit Administration (MDOT MTA) is recruiting for an Equipment Inspector. The Equipment Inspector is responsible for ensuring that the work (daily inspections, testing and preventative maintenance procedures) are performed on MARC equipment and that the work complies with all Federal and State of Maryland regulations and with manufacturers' recommendations. The position requires a professional working knowledge of motor vehicle laws, Federal and State regulations, including the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA), OSHA and MOSHA regulations and the System Safety Program Plan. The Equipment Inspector oversees the maintenance and repair of MARC-owned equipment and rolling stock (locomotives and cars), interfaces between maintenance contractors and material management contractors, manages contracts for contracted services for repairs and cleaning of equipment and rolling stock, receives and investigates emergency calls for equipment related incidents, and reviews and recommends products for use by MDOT MTA. The Equipment Inspector must be able to travel to Washington, DC daily during normal business hours.
This position is located in Washington, D.C., with travel within the MARC service area.
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
Experience: Five (5) years of experience in administrative or professional work. One (1) year of this experience must have involved one or more of the following: the supervision of other employees, overseeing and coordinating the general operations of a unit, applying rules and regulations, or exercising responsibility for the development of policies or procedures. * Two (2) of the five (5) years of experience must have been in the railroad industry with oversight for maintenance and repairs of a rail system.
*This statement contains a Selective Qualification which is more focused in scope than the minimum qualifications for this classification. Selective Qualifications are utilized when the position requires specific or bona-fide occupational qualifications (i.e., knowledge, skills and abilities).
SUBSTITUTION INFORMATION:
Additional experience in administrative or professional work may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.
Additional graduate level education at an accredited college or university may be substituted at the rate of 30 semester credit hours on a year-for-year basis for the required general experience.
Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience involving staff work related to the administration of rules, regulations, policies, procedures and processes, or overseeing or coordinating unit operations or functioning as a staff assistant on a year-for-year basis for the required education and experience.

Licenses & Certifications
Employees in this classification will be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle and will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
