Actalent Animal Care Technician- Cage Wash in Baltimore, Maryland

Job Title: Animal Care Technician - Cage WashJob Description

We are seeking a dedicated Animal Care Technician to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for placing processed bedding, feed, and other related items into assembled, sanitized cages. This role involves maintaining detailed records of maintenance schedules, detergent and disinfectant use, and conducting cage washer and autoclave performance tests. Daily animal health observations, animal husbandry duties, and ensuring the quality and health of research animals are also key responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Place processed bedding, feed, and other related items into assembled, sanitized cages.

  • Maintain detailed records of maintenance schedules, detergent and disinfectant use, and cage washer and autoclave performance tests.

  • Perform daily animal health observations and animal husbandry duties to maintain the quality and health of research animals.

  • Conduct daily water bottle/automatic water line and cage checks.

  • Provide appropriate food and water to research animals.

  • Perform cage changing and/or cage cleaning as required per SOP and/or specified protocols.

Essential Skills

  • Experience in animal care, monitoring, and husbandry.

  • Proficiency in animal handling and cleaning.

  • Knowledge of cage washing procedures.

  • Understanding of animal health and animal science.

  • Familiarity with animal research and vivarium settings.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.

  • Six months of experience in research animal care and husbandry preferred.

  • Physical ability to stand, walk, or move about campus on a continuous basis.

  • Ability to lift, carry, or move objects and materials weighing up to 50 lbs.

  • Capability to ascend/descend stairs regularly.

Work Environment

This position is based in an Animal Research Lab with a focus on Oncology. The role involves working in a high-volume animal care environment, providing valuable experience in the field of research.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $16.00 - $17.00
