Mobile Communications America Communication Systems Installer – Mobile & Fixed Equipment in Baltimore, Maryland

MCA, your trusted advisor for wireless communications, data, and security, is seeking an experienced Communication Systems Installer – Mobile & Fixed Equipment in the Timonium, Maryland area to support our fast-growing MSS division.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:

Site Survey and Analysis

  • Conducting site surveys to assess the installation environment.

  • Analyzing signal strength and coverage requirements.

  • Identifying potential obstacles or interference sources.

Vehicle Installation

  • Installing radio units in vehicles, including mounting and securing devices.

  • Connecting power supplies to the vehicle’s electrical system.

  • Installing and routing cabling for microphones, speakers, and control heads.

  • Mounting and properly positioning vehicle antennas, ensuring optimal performance.

  • Performing initial power-up and functional tests.

Fixed Network Installation

  • Installing base stations, repeaters, and other fixed network equipment.

  • Aligning antennas on towers, rooftops, or other structures.

  • Installing and securing coaxial cables, connectors, and grounding systems.

  • Preparing power supplies, including backup systems such as batteries or generators.

  • Installing and configuring network cabling and infrastructure.

System Configuration

  • Programming radios with correct frequencies, channels, and user settings.

  • Configuring network equipment, including routers and switches.

  • Preparing encryption and other security measures as needed.

Testing and Optimization

  • Performing comprehensive testing of all installed equipment.

  • Conducting signal strength and coverage tests.

  • Adjusting and optimizing antennas and equipment for maximum performance.

  • Troubleshooting and resolving any issues detected during testing.

Documentation

  • Creating detailed installation reports, including diagrams and photographs.

  • Documenting all configuration settings and system parameters.

  • Preparing user manuals and maintenance guides .

Technical Support

  • Providing ongoing technical support to customers.

  • Responding to service calls and troubleshooting issues remotely or onsite.

  • Assisting with system expansions or modifications.

Safety and Compliance

  • Following all safety protocols during installations.

  • Using appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).

WHAT YOU WILL BRING TO THE TEAM:

  • 2 years of technical experience, or a combination of related education/experience. 

  • Basic knowledge and experience with the installation of systems/equipment within various vehicle types, such as 2-way radios, controls, lighting, cameras, antennas, GPS, sirens, and other relevant devices/public safety equipment 

  • Knowledge/ability to read electrical and install diagrams. 

  • Basic ability to test/troubleshoot electrical and system issues. 

  • Ability to assemble/disassemble, properly route wiring, connect electrical fittings, install wiring harnesses, drill holes, solder, and perform the physical tasks associated with the vehicle upfits and installations. 

  • Basic understanding of DC voltage, resistance, and current.

  • Basic understanding of wire gauge and fuses based on DC current demand. 

  • Ability to use basic tools and test equipment, including hand tools, power drillers, multi-meters, and watt meters. 

YOUR ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The physical environment requires the employee to work inside and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to frequently stand, walk, sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; talk or hear; utilize personal protective equipment to prevent exposure to potentially hazardous materials, lift (overhead, waist level) from the floor, bending, frequently utilize near vision use for reading and computer use; be able to handle semi-frequent stressful conditions (cardiovascular), frequently work in outdoor weather conditions, frequently move equipment weighing up to 50 pounds, occasionally ascend/descend a ladder, operate a motor vehicle, frequently position self to maintain computers or other equipment as needed.

On-call for critical systems maintenance may be required. First shift hours Monday – Friday, with occasional 2nd or 3rd shift and weekends depending on project schedules.

Travel as necessary to support company and customer needs.
