Nature of Work:The Environmental Scientist manages environmental programs and coordinates the performance of environmental compliance functions throughout the organization. This role oversees projects related to air and water compliance, aboveground and underground storage tanks, spill prevention and control, hazardous waste and materials management, solid waste recycling, indoor air quality and environmental audits.

Duties for this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Act as a subject matter expert in the performance of field assessments and routine inspections of fuel oil storage tank systems, oil-water separators, waste management practices and contractor activities;
• Serve as an environmental representative on the facility Environmental and Safety Committees by participating in meetings and related actions;
• Perform routine facility environmental inspections and provide guidance on corrective actions to be taken;
• Assist with implementation of the Environmental Management System (EMS) and manage the web-based database associated with the EMS;
• Provide safety and environmental training, as necessary;
• Review and comment on various environmental policies, task orders, proposals, work plans, and other documents to provide constructive and appropriate feedback to address environmental liabilities; and
• Coordinate environmental service projects including but not limited to: waste disposal, recycling, fuel oil storage tank repairs, and adhering to procurement requirements.
