CareFirst Medical Assistant - CloseKnit (Hybrid) in Baltimore, Maryland

Resp & Qualifications

PURPOSE:

Provide safe patient care & clinical support. The Medical Assistant maintains efficient patient flow, supports an environment of patient safety and satisfaction, supports high-quality care delivery and demonstrates problem-solving skills. This individual functions as a collaborative member of the healthcare team, displaying professional behavior and communicating effectively with other team members and patients.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Clinical Support

  • Collects and documents patient information, clinical data and other relevant information such as vital signs, height/weight, allergies, active medication reconciliation list, chief complaint, pain score and current symptoms.

  • Requests/obtains additional data from outside sources: EKG/lab/ diagnostic test results and other historical data.

  • Schedules procedures and arranges referrals.

  • Obtain prior authorizations on specific medications, diagnostic testing/imaging, as ordered by provider.

  • Performs time-sensitive delegated tasks, which include but are not limited to, patient requests, and electronic health record (EHR) messages.

  • Orders, stocks, and maintains cleanliness of exam rooms and other assigned areas.

  • Completes communication loops to provide feedback and answers to providers, patients, families, pharmacies, suppliers, etc.

  • Conducts point of care testing, orders and refills as per protocol.

  • Provides medical record documentation as requested.

Patient Care

  • Prepares, administers and documents oral and injectable medications and vaccines, per provider orders. Consistently follows all elements of medication/vaccine policies.

  • Collects laboratory specimens in collaboration with laboratory personnel for on-site and remote-site testing. Performs waived lab testing as ordered.

  • Performs and/or assists with in-office procedures, such as EKGs, wound care, PAP smears, etc.

  • Provides age-specific patient education and distributes approved health information materials according to diagnoses.

  • Works to create and maintain excellence in patient/family satisfaction.

  • Operates clinical equipment according to equipment procedures including safety and quality control checks. Reports malfunctioning equipment.

  • Testing and implementation of new workflows and processes to improve patient care and or efficiency.

  • Outreach to patients to support follow through with care plan and gaps in care.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education Level: High School Diploma or GED.

Experience: 2 years primary care practice

Preferred Qualifications :

  • AAMA certified

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish

  • Care Coordination experience

  • Quality improvement experience

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to clinically prioritize and manage multiple responsibilities

  • Quick thinking in responding to patient needs

The associate is primarily seated while performing the duties of the position. Occasional walking or standing is required.
