The University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law has an exciting opportunity for an energetic self-starter to join the marketing and communications team./This position will be filled as a Marketing Specialist_or_Senior Marketing Specialist depending on the selected candidate’s qualifications/. The position supports the Communications Department, which is part of the Office of External Relations at Maryland Carey Law. The Communications Department builds recognition of the school’s program of legal education, research, practice, and public service through an integrated communication and marketing plan. Staff in this office develop and implement initiatives for both internal and external audiences including advertising, marketing, website, social media, publications, media relations, videography and photography, crisis communications, email marketing, development and alumni communications, and internal communications. All employees are expected to work primarily physically within the State of Maryland. * PRIMARY DUTIES of the Marketing Specialist* • Support the crafting of and work to implement the vision and strategy for Maryland Carey Law’s marketing efforts. Facilitate operations within the marketing function to support project specifications. • Collaborate with the school’s programs, centers, faculty, and departments (including admissions, career development, alumni and development, and student services), and other initiatives on the development ofmarketing materialssuch as brochures, flyers, email marketing campaigns, and social media presence. • Work to support the strategic planning for Maryland Carey Lawdigital advertising/marketing campaigns, such as student recruitment for the school’s academic programs and broader branding efforts. Work collaboratively with web, video/photo, academic, internal stakeholders, and external relations leadership teams to develop comprehensive communications and marketing approaches. May also work and manage relationships with outside vendors. • Support the Director of Communications in the development of benchmark criteria to track and evaluate the effectiveness of the school’s digital marketing strategies. • Support the strategy for and manage the school’ssocial mediapresence across current platforms and evaluate emerging platforms for appropriateness, reach, and effectiveness. Lead the development of the social media monthly calendar to promote optimal audience engagement. Compile data across social media platforms for quarterly/annual reporting, including analysis for insights, optimizations, and future strategic development. Collaborate with entities and groups within the school who use social media to ensure appropriate use and to amplify content across all School-related social media accounts and channels. • Manage the School’semail marketing programused for internal and external communications such as high-level emails, newsletters, announcements, and invitations and manage an email contact database. Integrate email communications with social media calendar to ensure messages are timely, coordinated, and avoid audience fatigue. Key stakeholders include programs and centers and all law school departments. • Performs other duties as assigned. * *The Senior Marketing Specialist will be responsible for all of the duties of the Marketing Specialist and the following: * Identify needs and develop communication strategies with marketing specifications including defined outcomes and deadlines. Consult with and provide expertise and guidance to faculty and staff within academic programs and other departments within the School. * In coordination with the Director of Communications, manage the School’s marketing budget. Recommend allocations within advertising budgets. Generate proposals and negotiate terms and conditions with some latitude. * Develop systems to collect and maintain knowledge concerning the legal educational and professional markets as required by changing market conditions. Analyze market trends. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS for Marketing Specialist: EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree. Degree in marketing, advertising, communications, journalism, or related field of study is preferred. EXPERIENCE: Two (2) years of experience in marketing, public relations, communications, or media, public, or client relations. OTHER:Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 undergraduate college credits being equivalent to one year of related experience. In instances where specific education and/or experience is required only directly related education and/or experience may be substituted. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS for Senior Marketing Specialist: EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree. Degree in marketing, advertising, communications, journalism, or related field of study is preferred. EXPERIENCE:Three (3) years of experience in marketing, public relations, communications, or media, public, or client relations. OTHER:Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 undergraduate college credits being equivalent to one year of related experience. In instances where specific education and/or experience is required only directly related education and/or experience may be substituted. PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: * Experience working with social media on behalf of an organization, email marketing platforms, website content management systems, customer relationship management platforms, and commonly used graphic design programs. * Experience working in higher education and/or the legal community.
