We are looking for:

The Operations Supervisor has the overall responsibility for plant operations and the supervision of operators on the on his or her shift. On off-shifts the Operations Supervisor is responsible for the oversight of all personnel on the site and serves as the emergency coordinator.

You will bring:

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.

  • 2 or 4 year Technical Degree preferred

  • Minimum 5 years chemical plant operating experience

  • Good interpersonal & leadership skills

  • Prior supervisory experience a plus.

  • Good attendance record

  • The ability to lead a team to achieving high standards

  • Supervisory level working knowledge of safety regulations, safe work behaviors, root cause incident investigation techniques, process safety concepts, and the ability to work within HSSE permit systems.

  • Ability to interact effectively with the hourly workforce, operations management, other supervisors, and plant personnel.

  • Ability to apply practical and/or engineering knowledge to solve plant problems and to implement improvement actions.

  • Ability to assess, prioritize, and resolve production issues.

  • Ability to develop a workforce through reward and recognition, coaching, corrective action / progressive discipline (must be able to hold people accountable).

  • Support the plant’s quality management systems and its compliance with pertinent quality standards.

We count on you for:

  • Direct the safe and efficient daily operations of the Baltimore Production and Warehouse departments with a strong emphasis on ensuring compliance with HSSE policies, procedures, permit systems, and safe behaviors.

  • Set performance and behavior expectations for Operations personnel and conduct the appropriate intervention to reinforce and hold employees accountable to these standards.

  • Take ownership and drive improvements in plant housekeeping performance.

  • Drive the communication and execution of the production plan on the shop floor, as well as feedback for improvement.

  • Assess employees’ skills and behaviors through personal and planned observations. Conduct training and coaching as needed to develop the safety culture and operational and technical knowledge of the department.

  • Provide leadership to deliver improvements in plant operations and HSSE performance as measured by the key plant performance indicators such as safety and environmental performance, Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), Right First Time (RFT), On-Time In Full (OTIF), raw material and energy usage, and fixed cost spending.

  • Lead or strongly support improvement teams and initiatives.

  • Fully participate in plant HSE initiatives including performing periodic audits and housekeeping inspections.

  • Instill discipline and accountability in execution of procedures. Lead this effort by example.

  • Enforce Solvay Life Saving Rules and all other site safety rules and procedures by all personnel working on the site.

  • Ensure appropriate HSE training is provided to all direct and indirect reports.

  • Ensure all safety inspections and audits are performed and documented.

  • Ensure mechanical integrity program is maintained and adhered to.

  • Conduct periodic inspections to ensure compliance to existing safety rules and procedures and to assess the effectiveness and need for other risk reduction activities within the departments.

  • Ensure all contractors understand and adhere to plant safety rules and procedures.

  • Participate in regulatory and internal audits as needed.

  • Represent Solvay through daily actions that reinforce the corporate values demonstrating personal commitment to a safe, healthy and environmentally sound workplace for employees.

  • Conduct or direct the completion of investigation of incidents or near misses, as appropriate, and ensure corrective actions are identified, assigned, and completed.

You will get:

  • Competitive salary and benefits package

  • The U.S. base salary range reasonably expected to be paid for this position is between 84,960 - 106,200 per year. Since actual compensation packages are based on a variety of factors unique to each candidate we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted base salary range. Total compensation for this role also includes bonus and/or other incentives.
