Overview

The Research Assistant I will be responsible for providing research support to the Director, Sturge–Weber Syndrome Center. The Research Assistant I will perform a variety of duties in support of the research goals, objectives and protocols.

Responsibilities

  1. Assist with cell culture and transfection of cell lines and molecular studies with various assays.

  2. Assist with methods such as DNA sequencing, RT-PCR and gene array technology to measure mRNA expression in samples or immunoblotting for evaluation of protein expression.

  3. Assist with the implementation of animal protocols, including experimental treatments, surgical techniques, and post-operative care.

  4. Assist with the organization and analysis of experiment data, documentation of findings, and presents findings to Principal Investigator. Assist with the development of posters and manuscripts under the direction of the Principal Investigator.

  5. Assist with the preparation of tissue sections, using a cryostat or sliding microtome, for histological, receptor binding, immunohistochemical, or in-situ hybridization studies.

  6. Assist with histological, immunohistochemical or in-situ hybridization, experiments.

  7. Assist with use of computerized image analysis systems to collect data from the experiments and to analyze data with Microsoft Excel and SPSS.

  8. Assist with the design and planning of experiments, using above/other methods.

  9. Assist in the implementation of new experimental protocols, based on methods described in scientific literature.

  10. Work cooperatively with others in the laboratory.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be proficient with MS Office suite including Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint as well as other business and research-related software and applications. Familiarity with SPSS or other statistical programs, image analysis (such as with Image J and AngioTool), and Adobe Photoshop preferred.

EDUCATION:

  • BA/BS required.

  • BA/BS in Biology, Neuroscience, Molecular Biology or related field preferred.

EXPERIENCE:

  • 1 year experience with research experience preferred.

  • Background in neuroscience or molecular biology is preferred.

Minimum pay range

USD $39,747.76/Yr.

Maximum pay range

USD $65,065.73/Yr.
