Johns Hopkins University Research Nurse Manager in Baltimore, Maryland

The Department of Pediatrics is seeking a Research Nurse Manage r who will be responsible for managing research studies on food allergy within the Division of Pediatric Allergy. The successful candidate will supervise and monitor professional and non-professional staff and ensure that research-related services are provided according to the study protocols, meeting established hospital and accrediting agency regulations and guidelines. The Manager will oversee operational management and strategic planning and day-to-day operations. This position reports directly to the Director of the SOM Division of Pediatric Allergy, Immunology and Rheumatology.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

Leverage Staff

  • Hire, train and supervise Research Associates, Coordinators and Professional Staff.

  • Conduct performance appraisals for Research Associates, Coordinators and Professional Staff.

  • Mentor, discipline and motivate staff.

  • Oversee progress of staff through weekly progress meetings.

  • Initiate Interview process for new staff.

  • Direct orientation of newly hired staff.

  • Arrange for adequate coverage when personnel are absent.

  • Consult with Department Director and Administrator to determine long-term staffing needs and level of expertise required by program goals and utilization trends.

  • Provide primary point of contact for Clinical Research Units, Research Laboratory, Investigational Pharmacy, Research Nutrition and Divisional Administration.

  • Assist Primary Investigators with development, management, coordination and compliance of multiple research projects and activities

  • Oversee project development, implementation and progress.

  • Establish and implement processes and procedures within the Division of Pediatric Allergy, Immunology, and Rheumatology to ensure compliance with the requirements of Johns Hopkins University and outside sponsoring agencies.

  • Develop strategies and set target dates for goals.

  • Analyze data and develop reports and benchmarks to,- Identify trends and patterns recruitment and retention of research subjects

  • Develop and monitor quality improvement initiatives

  • Engage the entire team in study outcome goals

  • Ensure that studies are conducted in accordance with all applicable regulations and guidelines and adhere to the standard operating procedures specified in the procedure manuals.

  • Facilitate logistical aspects of materials and services needed for projects.

  • Oversee IRB, IBC, and ICTR submissions for Division research projects.

  • Submit applications, amendments, annual renewals and other documents to the IRB and other regulatory agencies.

  • Develop and maintain Regulatory Binder and Manual of Procedures for Division research projects.

  • Attend start-up meetings for new projects.

  • Assist with budget and billing for research contracts.

  • Direct auditing of compensations for study participants.

  • Meet with Division Chief to discuss strategic planning for future food allergy projects

  • Provide clinical research coordination for the multi-center food allergy research projects

  • Provide advanced clinical care directly to patients/families enrolled in the studies.

  • Identify staff, patient and systems issues that impact on patient care in the research setting.

  • Develop and implement recruitment and retention strategies to ensure that studies are well-enrolled and have high participant retention rates.

  • Facilitate teamwork between research team, research pharmacy, research unit staff, study coordinating center and other sites.

  • Ensure accurate data management.

  • Prepare site and staff for auditing and monitoring visits.

Special Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Must complete Manager Development Program within 12 months of employment/promotion date.

  • Analytical skills necessary to resolve problems requiring a professional level of knowledge in a specific discipline/field and/or improve enhance, or upgrade complex clinical, financial data processing, marketing or human resources systems and programs.

  • Communication skills necessary to effectively manage employees within assigned department and to persuade and negotiate with peer-level managers on issues and programs that impact the department.

  • Ability to effectively deal with conflicting view of issues and mediating fair and workable solutions.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Individual must be a registered nurse, licensed in the State of Maryland or state where practicing.

  • Bachelor's degree in nursing or related discipline required.

  • Minimum of five years experience in the specialty or a related area required.

  • Related master's degree may be considered in lieu of some experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree strongly preferred.

Classified Title: Research Nurse Manager

Role/Level/Range: ACRP/04/MG

Starting Salary Range: $86,500 - $151,400 Annually ($151,400 targeted; Commensurate with experience)

Employee group: Full Time

Schedule: Monday - Friday/ 8:30-5:00
