TheUniversity of Maryland, Baltimore Office of Research and Development (ORD)has an opportunity for aSenior Contracts & Grants Specialistwith the UM-BILD REACH 3.0 Hub, a four-year, $4 million program sponsored by the NIH to promote faculty entrepreneurship and biomedical workforce training. This position requires an individual who is a self-starter, resourceful, and anticipates next steps. The successful candidate will have excellent interpersonal skills and exhibit attention to detail, necessary for constructive communication with faculty inventors. This position will plan, organize, and execute complex assignments covering pre-award activities (grant proposal submission and proposal review), post-award activities (project startup, progress reporting, closeout), and additional administrative functions. The position will be based in UMB’s Office of Technology Transfer and report to the Program Manager of UM-BILD. UM-BILD’s key initiative is the Pilot Project Grant program, in which entrepreneurial faculty of UM-BILD institutions (UMB, UMBC, and Morgan State University) compete for one-year, $75,000 grants to explore the commercialization of technologies invented in their labs along the “benchtop to bedside” pathway. Monitors and modifies processes as necessary to ease the submission, review, and funding of grant applications. Develops and manages timelines for each new UM-BILD Pilot Project Grant cohort by using tools such as project management systems and checklists. * Provides consultation, advice, and directions to investigators and to grant reviewers regarding the administrative processes of the UM-BILD program. * Reviews sponsor guidelines and requests for proposals, interprets compliance and eligibility information, and communicates it to research faculty and staff. Identifies inconsistencies in processes and develops suggestions for improving them. * Reviews grant applications for completeness before they are sent to reviewers. Knowledgeable about the funding mechanisms and interpretations of regulations and requirements as set forth by federal, state, and university sponsors. Ensures compliance with and adherence to those policies. * Maintains documentation for each cohort of applications in a database and electronic filing system. Tasks include managing and tracking the overall progression of grant submissions, distribution of applications to reviewers, and curating post award documentation. * Collates and assists in interpreting data for the purpose of preparing UM-BILD reports for program leadership and sponsors. Provides PI and management with ad hoc reports in support of the strategic plan. * Coordinates with the finance and administrative staff to manage grant finances, ensuring adherence to budgets and compliance with sponsors’ requirements.Develops safeguards to ensure the integrity of grants administration and contracts processes. * Identifies future funding opportunities and works with PIs to identify research components. * Acts as the administrative point of contact for all UMB parties, collaborating institutions, and sponsors involved in the UM-BILD program. * Maintains, identifies, and resolves any delinquent trainings, conflicts of interest, and oversees other institutional compliance requirements. * Performs other duties as assigned. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education: *Bachelor's degree. Advanced degree (MS, MBA, PhD) preferred. *Experience: *Fiveyears of directly related experience in contracts, grants, or research administration. *Certification/Licensure: *Certified Research Administrator (CRA) or Project Management Professional (PMP) certification not required but would be helpful. *Other: *Financial disclosure reporting required by State of Maryland Ethics Committee. Advanced degree may count towards years of experience. * KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: * Excellent analytical, organizational, interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills. * Capable of working with a high degree of independence and able to prioritize work in a multi-tasking environment in order to meet deadlines. Demonstrated customer service focus with the ability to interact and collaborate with multiple constituencies. * Proficient with the MS Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams, SharePoint, and PowerPoint), Adobe Acrobat, and software designed for large databases. Capable of quickly learning how to use unfamiliar software. * Familiarity with research compliance procedures, such as those involving animal use (IACUC approvals), human subjects (IRB approvals and exemptions), Data Use Agreements, and clinical trials. * Self-motivated with the initiative, patience, and resourcefulness to adapt to sudden changes. * Ability to understand, apply, and adhere to the UMB Core Values of Respect and Integrity, Well-being and Sustainability, Equity and Justice, and Innovation and Discovery. * *HIRING RANGE:$87,000 - $97,000 per year (Commensurate with education and experience) UMB is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer.
