Primary Purpose of Position:
Constellation, the nation’s largest producer of carbon-free energy, is a leading voice on many complex clean energy policies at the national, state and local level and must translate technical details into compelling, persuasive messaging for a broad range of audiences to gain support and momentum. The senior writer will need to learn these issues quickly with the assistance of Constellation’s subject matter experts and will be responsible for distilling the information into master messaging frameworks for each issue. This person will also need to be able to translate this information into different communications vehicles, ranging from speeches and briefing memos to social media posts, website content and fact sheets.
This person will need to become fluent in all these issues and work closely with executives, policy/government affairs, the generation and commercial businesses, investor relations, advocacy and the communications teams.
Primary Duties :
Learning and distilling complex policy and business priorities into compelling, persuasive and comprehensive messaging frameworks.
Drafting speeches, fact sheet content, media statements, website content and social media posts.
Running reviews throughout the company to ensure accuracy and nuance is captured in Corp. Communications and Advocacy messaging.
Regularly updating issue-specific messaging as the topic evolves and monitoring what other voices are contributing to the conversation.
Minimum Qualification:
Bachelor’s degree.
Minimum of 8 years of experience in political/policy communications, journalism, advocacy, public relations or related experience.
Excellent writing and editing skills.
Strong interpersonal communication and management skills.
Demonstrated project management experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience gained from a political campaign, advocacy group, think tank, journalism, Congressional office or similar organization.
Experience and knowledge of energy policy and politics.
Experience working with NGO’s and other third-party advocacy organizations.
Media engagement and on-the-record experience
