Johns Hopkins University Sr. Research Specialist in Baltimore, Maryland

The Johns Hopkins University department of Pharmacology and Molecular Sciences is seeking a casual Sr. Research Specialis t with advanced technical knowledge, scientific communication skills, and the ability to support collaborative research projects on the cutting edge of drug discovery research. The Sr. Research Specialist will also assist with lab management including ordering and reconciling, management of service contracts, and participation in and supervision of projects in the Freel Meyers Laboratory.

The Sr. Research Specialist will apply exceptional organizational skills as well as technical and scientific skills in pharmacology, biochemistry, chemical biology and related areas. The individual will manage multiple tasks and projects, including design and technical assistance with relevant experiments, analysis and interpretation of data, and preparation of manuscripts and grant applications. This individual will work closely with the Principal Investigator, junior and senior lab members, and project collaborators to ensure that accurate, relevant and reproducible data is being generated and archived appropriately for future reference by other researchers.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide advanced technical knowledge of concepts, principles, practices and methods used in drug discovery research.

  • Work closely with the Principal Investigator and laboratory scientists—students, postdocs and research associates—in technical aspects of the design of research projects, experimental design and implementation, and data analysis and interpretation as needed.

  • Assist Principal Investigator and/or lab members with writing and editing of manuscripts upon completion of projects as needed.

  • Assist Principal Investigator and/or lab members with writing and editing of grant applications as needed.

  • Provide feedback to Principal Investigator regarding the status of ongoing projects and take part in discussions of future research directions as needed.

  • Oversee ordering of research supplies and reconciling of orders.

  • Maintain an advanced level of scientific skill and/or knowledge and stay current with developments and trends in the area of chemical biology and drug discovery.

  • Technical knowledge and capacity to complete research projects in the relevant areas.

  • Excellent verbal and written skills.

  • Ability to successfully manage projects, collaborate, and assist in obtaining funding in the relevant research areas.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Pharmacology, Biochemistry, Chemistry/Chemical-Biology, or related field.

  • Four year's experience in a comparable laboratory performing relevant techniques.

  • Experience ordering lab supplies and managing services contracts.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Biochemistry or Pharmacology or related field.

  • Knowledge and experience with in vitro pre-clinical pharmacology assessments and related assay development.

  • Technical knowledge that can be assessed by scientific publication record.

Role/Level/Range: ACRP/04/MC

Starting Salary Range: $24.61 - $37.07 HRLY ($5,262 targeted; Commensurate with experience)
