Custom Job Purpose:

The purpose of this job is to perform the coordination of Exceptional Student Education Programs relating to the varying exceptionalities for a related service area. Related services means transportation and such developmental, corrective, and other supportive services as are required to assist a child with a disability to benefit from special education, and includes speech-language pathology and audiology services, interpreting services, psychological services, physical and occupational therapy, recreation, including therapeutic recreation, early identification and assessment of disabilities in children, counseling services, including rehabilitation counseling, orientation and mobility services, and medical services for diagnostic or evaluation purposes. Related services also include school health services and school nurse services, social work services in schools, and parent counseling and training. Collaborates with principals, teachers, support personnel, district staff, and parents to ensure appropriate implementation of Exceptional Student Education programs to provide ongoing technical assistance to schools and teacher-related services personnel.

Essential Functions of this Job

All duties are performed in cooperation and collaboration with the Director of Exceptional Student Education. Implements and monitors provision of related services following federal, state, and district mandates and guidelines.

Monitors and adjusts district and school-based unit allocations and implements recruitment and retention initiatives and activities.

Implements and monitors use of appropriate scientific, research-based therapeutic interventions and service delivery models to ensure appropriate services are being provided to improve student academic progress.

Implements and oversees contracts for related services, as needed.

Collaborates with higher education institutions to facilitate continuing education opportunities, internship and externship programs, and development of partnership programs.

Assists administrative, supervisory, and site-based personnel by developing and implementing instructional programs, demonstrating appropriate teaching methods and use of instructional materials.

Serves as an advocate for program/project at the district-level and as a liaison between the district, site, and the community.

Provides curricular and/or program support and assistance to district staff, site administrators, teachers, instructional coaches, resource teachers, and other site-based personnel.

Provides relevant professional development workshops and/or training programs to assist appropriate instructional staff in updating their skills and increasing their knowledge base.

Attends relevant meetings including professional conferences and leading or serving on committees related to appropriate related area, programs/projects, and/or specified instructional materials.

Provides on-site support to administrators with teacher observations and evaluations, program implementation, and evaluation of program effectiveness.

Assists in the objective evaluation of both established and innovative programs to assess the effectiveness of materials, the methodology used in the program, and the educational growth of the learner.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of exceptional education rules and regulations as defined by local, state, and federal mandates. Bilingual/biliterate preferred.

Education, Experience and/or Certification/License Requirements

A master's degree from an accredited educational institution is required. Certification in administration and supervision or Educational Leadership is required. Certification in Exceptional Student Education or the designated service area and work experience in the area of Exceptional Student Education is strongly preferred.

Work Context:

Requires some sitting and standing, walking, and moving about to coordinate work. Requires the use of alternative communication systems, such as electronic mail, telephones, and computers. Requires coordination of work tasks to establish priorities, set goals and meet deadlines. Requires face-to-face discussions and contact with individuals and/or teams. Requires work with both internal and external contacts, and with the public.

Physical Environment:

Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force as frequently as needed to move objects.
