DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: This is important work involving responsibility for maintaining high standards of professional nursing services in the operation of a department, with special emphasis on patient care and treatment and on the supervision, instruction, and coordination of nursing personnel. The work is performed under direct supervision, with some latitude allowed for carrying out specific duties, making assignments to subordinates and the supervision of the nursing staff. Incumbent may be required to work additional hours when necessary to meet patient and staffing requirements. Does related work as required and assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A. Possession of a Bachelors Degree or higher in Nursing, and one (1) year of experience in professional nursing activities including supervisory experience; OR B. Possession of an Associate Degree in Nursing and two (2) years of experience in professional nursing activities, one year of which shall have been in a supervisory position; OR C. Any equivalent combination of training and experience as indicated in A or B above. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS FOR ACCEPTANCE OF APPLICATIONS; Eligibility for a license issued by the State of New York to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse. Possession of license at the time of appointment.
