Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 4 years of field experience in instructional discipline (pharmacy technician).

  • Current and unencumbered certification/licensure as a Louisiana Board Approved Pharmacy Technician

  • High school Diploma or equivalent (Required)

  • Associates Degree or Higher (Preferred)

Job Concepts

Baton Rouge Community College seeks a qualified and experienced pharmacy technician instructor. The position includes instructional didactic as well as hands on skills lab style learning. Pharmacy professionals with teaching experience who are self-driven and highly motivated are encouraged to apply. Instructor is responsible for coordination, planning, preparation, presentation, and evaluation of classroom instruction.

The pharmacy technician instructor will work with the Nursing and Allied Healthcare division team members to develop a quality pharmacy technician program curriculum. The instructor is expected to utilize personal experience and field expertise to provide approved instructional materials that follows the expectations of the Louisiana State Board of Pharmacy Technicians.

Faculty are expected to support the institution's mission and vision and abide by the Faculty Handbook and college-wide policies. Adjunct faculty report directly to the academic program manager and/or department chair within their respective departments and divisions.

Duties and Responsibilities Include:

  • Teach specified subject(s) in the pharmacy technician curriculum for students’ comprehension. This entails having a strong understanding of the topics to be taught, and preparing well for lectures

  • Participate in professional development training and have knowledge of information concerning new advances and procedures in your field through continuing education

  • Administer tests and assignments to students to assess their understanding of topics they have taken, as well as to measure the efficiency of the teaching methods adopted

  • Participate in monthly meetings and to be organized by the Program Manager to assess program effectiveness, update partners on developments and communicate teacher or student's needs and concerns

  • Personally supervise academic activities of students to ensure they are doing well

  • Evaluate students’ performances and create effective means of rewarding excelling students, while encouraging those not doing so well, by working with them to improve their academic performances

  • Set and satisfy the learning objectives set by the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) for the Certified Pharmacy Technician Course as outlined in the course material

  • Achieve a successful pass rate by the students of the NHA exam to be administered at the conclusion of the course. Pass rates less than 75% require formal program review by the Program Manager and Director.

  • Provide all rosters, evaluations and any other class completion documents required by the program manager in a timely manner.

  • Prepare students for and maintain updated Instructional material national certification exams

  • Manage and participate in Mid-Module evaluations of the students

  • Prepare course manuals which includes the course outline, syllabus, weekly schedule, tests, assignments, discussion questions and PowerPoint presentation and submit them all in electronic format to the project manager

  • Assist in daily management and oversight of the Program

  • Assist In interview and resume workshops during last month of training in collaboration with the student success and services team

  • Assist in the development of graduation materials and pinning ceremony details

  • Provide supportive services and refer students to available campus social services when needed.

  • Maintain professional appearance and attitude in order to set example for students

  • Provide an engaging and orderly classroom atmosphere conducive to learning

  • Provide proper instruction and supervision in scheduled labs for assigned students

  • Follow OSHA, FERPA, and HIPAA regulations
