The Quality Director leads the Quality department at the SHAPE Operations Plant in Baxter Springs, KS. The SHAPE plant in BXSP is a global leader in machining components and assembling pumps and aftermarket kits for the ultra-high pressure water cutting industry.

Reports to Sr Director of Quality directly and indirectly to BXSP Plant Manager.

Implement/manage a Shape Quality System that focuses on the customer. Ensure business systems and processes support both system sales and installation as well as after-market sales and service. Responsible for defining and promoting a quality mindset across the entire plant and working with cross-departmental leadership to deliver high quality products on schedule.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage Shape Operations Quality team while establishing and maintaining operational quality systems, tools, processes, controls, and metrics.
  • Develops a quality assurance staff by recruiting, selecting, orienting, training, and coaching employees.
  • Assures quality products and processes by establishing and enforcing quality standards and testing materials and products.
  • Implements robust in-process product inspection standards by studying manufacturing methods and devising testing methods and procedures.
  • Responsible for an effective and efficient Quality Management System
  • Drive business process definition, documentation, implementation, and institutionalization against measured KPIs and results.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Business process skill, knowledge, and ability to lead cross-functional teams in structuring and implementing business processes for efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Quality Systems knowledge, ISO 9001 experience
  • Operational metrics, data management, quality metrics, SPC
  • Highly skilled and experienced in structured problem solving, and in leading teams in problem-solving, 8D, 5 Whys, Root cause analysis
  • Quality training and leadership skills
  • Strong cross-site, cross-company, and cross-cultural communication and leadership skills
  • Foundational management skills, experience in matrix management organizations, managing through teams and through others to achieve results.

Education/Experience and/or Training:

  • BS Engineering, Operations, Manufacturing, Systems, Quality or Business Process
  • Minimum of 8 yrs. experience in Quality, Operations, and Manufacturing in complex, cross-site environments
  • Minimum of 8 years, matrix management experience. Skilled manager with proven leadership abilities
  • ISO 9001, Quality systems, quality tools, problem-solving methodologies

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to move about an office and production environment, including occasional walking, standing, and moving between departments or facilitie .

  • Regular use of hands and fingers to operate office equipment, such as computers, phones, and printers.

  • Ability to use close vision and focus, as well as to communicate clearly and listen attentively.

  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times
