Michigan Sugar Company has an immediate full-time opportunity for a Agriculturist. This position will cover the company's West District.

 

 

Job Summary

The Agriculturist will work with assigned shareholders to consult on Michigan Sugar Company related activities and to serve as their agronomic specialist.  In this role, the Agriculturist will be the direct contact for their assigned shareholders and will consult with shareholders on sugar beet production. At harvest, they will assist in monitoring grower loads to assure proper beets entering pile conducive to long term storage Additionally, the Agriculturist will guide shareholders through the necessary steps to meet shareholder requirements.

 

 

Primary Responsibilities

  • Provide sound agronomic advice to shareholders.
  • Serve as the agronomy specialist for their assigned growers.
  • Provide recommendations on soil fertility and crop health.
  • Consult with shareholders on variety selection and placement.
  • Track sugar beet acreage and yields from contracting to harvest.
  • Scout fields during the growing season, and provide recommendations to issues that may be observed, such as emergence, disease, insects, weeds, etc.
  • Guide shareholders through the process of contracting, share transfer, early delivery and other shareholder requirements.
  • Work with the Agronomists, Agronomy Managers to identify practices that can be implemented to benefit shareholders and/or Michigan Sugar Company.
  • Work with Ag Operations Team and shareholders to meet the needs of harvest.
  • Manage assigned early delivery lotteries.
  • Work with Ag Logistics to guide Maus operations.
  • Work with the Ag Communications team to support departmental programs.
  • Promote Michigan Sugar Company in a positive manner and support all teams in the Ag Department and the Cooperative.
  • Other duties as assigned.

     

Position Qualifications

  • Associate or bachelor's degree in agronomy related study or equivalent work experience/degree
  • Experience with field consulting is preferred
  • Competent in computer software packages such as Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Ability to provide trusted advice to growers
  • Strong Agronomic skills
