JOB TITLE: EQUIPMENT OPERATOR

RATE OF PAY: $17.45 per hour entry, progressing to $20.73 per hour after 2 years (TU07)

This is a full-time position with benefits as provided for within the USW Full-time labor agreement, although union membership is voluntary.

GENERAL SUMMARY: Operates equipment such as tractors with various attachments and front-end loader to maintain park grounds and recreational areas and assist with maintenance projects. Operation of the equipment is essential to completing assigned tasks. Also participates in general parks maintenance activities. This position requires being on-call bi-weekly during the winter months. Works under general supervision of the Superintendent of Buildings and Grounds or designee.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Operates front-end loader, skid steer, backhoe, truck and tractors. Hauls loaded trailer with dump truck. Assists in the maintenance of this large equipment.
  2. Prepares ball diamonds for field games using tractor with attachments to rake, grade, level and shape playing areas. Installs base pegs and lines fields when necessary and empties trash barrels.
  3. Repairs ball diamonds damaged by players or weather conditions by adding clay and cinder to fill holes and level areas. Repairs bleacher boards. Removes water from infields late in the day so teams can still play.
  4. Cuts grass in park areas using tractor with mowing attachments.
  5. Maintains equipment such as lawnmowers, tractors, trucks, snowplows, chainsaw, weed trimmers etc.
  6. Plows snow off park driveways, parking lots, and fairgrounds. Removes snow from parking lots when heavy accumulations occur. Salts parking lots.
  7. Maintains dog park. Empty trash cans, weed whack fence lines
  8. Excavates areas and assists in the installation of playground equipment by using tractor or front-end loader to lift, hold or anchor equipment.
  9. Moving and set up of command trailer to various county sites.
  10. Operates dump trucks to transport materials to work projects and assist in personnel or office furniture transfers.
  11. Maintains operating condition of equipment performing tasks such as changing oil and minor tune-ups.
  12. Performs normal duties of parks maintenance workers including shoveling, salting, raking, sweeping, tree trimming, and maintain fence lines.
  13. Operate rental equipment as needed.
  14. Consistent and punctual attendance is required.
  15. All other duties as assigned.
