Job Description

RWC, Inc., a global leader in the design and production of innovative manufacturing systems currently has an opening for a Mechanical Designer.

Works closely with Project Leaders or Engineering Management in producing mechanical designs which are accurate, complete, and mechanically viable with the aid of little or no reference material or concept sketches.

Essential Functions:

  • Create conceptually and dimensionally correct designs which meet customer and/or RWC requirements, which are free of all interferences.
  • Confers with Chief Engineer and Project Leader to interpret design concepts, determine nature and type of required detailed working drawings and coordinates work with others.
  • Review and understands proposal, RFSO, and design criteria to ensure design meets contractual agreement.
  • Perform calculations for all critical motions and review with the Project Leader.
  • Design all components to meet RWC's lubrication philosophy and label special requirements on all layouts.
  • Balloon all purchased components on assemblies with all the appropriate ordering information.
  • Zero-line dimension on all layouts, and references locations, as required.
  • Documents data, computes quantities, determines materials needed and evaluates cost for machinery to be manufactured.
  • Identify all critical locating points and/or surfaces.
  • Clearly label all part sizes and part ranges.
  • Show all part sizes, part ranges, and overlap of stations on either side of your design.
  • Keep the Project Leader informed (on a weekly basis) of your progress in order to meet the completion date.
  • Show all views as required, labeled with stock flow arrows.
  • Determine build-up of tolerances between details and final assembly of customer part prints.
  • Show all motions (extend and retract) and potential interferences areas.
  • Design in all switches for all motions (Use RWC standard components).
  • Add design intent to layouts where the intent of the design or ideas are not clear.
  • Balloon all manufacture parts on assemblies, with any odd or special materials labeled.
  • Follow the AMechanic Design Process@ gates flow chart.
  • Follow all RWC corporate and engineering ISO-9001 procedures.
  • Prepares a preliminary sequence of operation chart, and to coordinate the transfer of information to electrical engineering and to fluid power engineering, so as to not cause a delay in the project schedule.
  • Help train and guide layout draftsmen and Detailers.
  • Perform a Detailer line-up meeting with the Project Leader and the Detailer.
  • Perform the checker line-up meeting with the Project Leader, Checker, and the Detailer.
  • Respond to manufacturing request for technical assistance during the build of the equipment.
  • Travel to customer facility for project meeting and/or design reviews, or as required.
  • Remove all Junk DWG files from the computer directory upon completion of project task.
  • Enters all bills of material electronically for all manufacturing and purchasing items and ensures information can be easily identified for ordering and is against the correct subassembly.
