Job Summary

Join the City of Baytown as a Part-Time Wetlands Animal Care Technician! We're seeking a passionate and dedication individual. If you have a love for nature and a dedication to conservation, we’d love to have you on our team!

Promotes care for ambassador animals. Must not be allergic to animals and be able to work all assigned shifts. Handles animals with kindness and respect in order to prepare animals for outreach events. Assists other Wetlands Center/Baytown Nature Center staff in preparing exhibits for outreach activities.

Duties

  • Maintains proper sanitation according to department standards by cleaning animal cages, walls, windows, and flooring. Sanitizes as required. Observes animals and reports any signs of illness, distress, or safety issues. Ensures all animals have adequate food and water by replenishing supplies. Operates washers and dryers to clean laundry. Exercises animals by taking them to exercise areas. Follow proper safety measures and procedures when using chemicals and cleaning supplies. Assist other employees, citizens and volunteers when required. Maintain and clean storage areas. Provides humane treatment to all animals.

  • Performs all other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Required:

  • High School Diploma or GED.

  • Reliable transportation.

  • Ability to read, write and understand and follow oral and written instructions.

Preferred:

  • 6 months experience with exotic animal handling and care.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Ability to exercise good public relations skills. Ability to handle animals without harm to them, others, or self. Ability to get along appropriately with co-workers and the public.
