Pay range: $120,000 to $130,000 annual salary

JOB SUMMARY:
Plans, organizes, develops and directs the overall operations of the Nursing Services Department in accordance with all state, federal and local guidelines/regulations to ensure that the highest degree of quality care is maintained at all times at assigned facility.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervises and is responsible for nursing practices and all activities of the Assistant and Associate Director of Nursing and other nurse leaders, managers supervisors, as well as licensed professionals and para-professionals within the nursing department. Ensures they follow established departmental policies and procedures.
Maintains and adheres to a master staffing plan. Prepares “on-call” schedule to ensure continuous RN coverage.
Provides oversight to Medical Records Department and Staffing Coordinator.
Coordinates nursing services with other resident care services such as Physical Therapy, Physician (Provider) services, Occupational Therapy, Speech Therapy, Activities, Dietary, Social Services and Pharmacy services.
Oversees the coordination of all physicians and their associates that provide services for the facility, reporting consistent problems to the Administrator and Medical Director.
Makes recommendations to the Administrator for the purchase of medical supplies and equipment to sufficiently maintain and/or treat resident conditions in the facility. Is economical and careful with supplies and equipment.
Assumes duties of the Administrator in their absence and leads daily morning meetings as required Responsible for Nursing Services functions, activities and training
Conducts, on a regular basis, or as the need arises, staff meetings involving all licensed personnel for the purpose of continuing education regarding policies governing supervision, leadership and management, in addition to policies related to the care and treatment of residents. Minutes and attendance records will be maintained in the education department. The minutes will be made available to serve as a resource to promote continuity in communication across all tours of duty.
Attends in service education and/or seminars necessary to promote continuing education concerning, but not limited to, the field of Long-Term Care and the regulations governing the same
Attends all Enterprise meetings or provides alternate for same.
Ensures that the facility has a sound infection prevention and antibiotic stewardship tracking and monitoring program. Provides support to the facility Infection Preventions, along with leadership and commitment to improving the use of safe and appropriate antibiotics in the facility.
Understands Medicare Part A guidelines and standards for part A providers. Maintains current records and ensures required documentation as required for continued payment of Medicare Part A
Participates in NYS Department of Health and Federal Surveys
Reports incidents to the NYS Department of Health in accordance with current regulations and requirements
Is knowledgeable of the Long-Term Care regulatory guidance, the PP State Operations Manual for Long Term Care and other related regulatory bodies.
Reports incidents to the NYS Department of Health in accordance with current regulations and requirements.
Participates in NYS Department of Health and Federal Surveys.
Responsible for the execution of resident care policies as Directed by the Medical Director.
Conducts investigation of incidents that occur in the facility for abuse, neglect, mistreatment, medication errors, equipment failures, resident to resident incidents, etc.
Responsible for the return or destruction of non-controlled and controlled substances per policy/regulations.
Provides adequate professional nurses and para-professional personnel in sufficient numbers and commensurate with the type and amount of nursing needs of individual residents.
Interviews applicants who seek employment in the nursing department
- Responsible for Nursing Staff oversight and participation
The probationary and annual performance evaluation process for nursing staff.
Per-employment physical and annual health screening process for all staff.
Attendance records for the Nursing Department
License/registration and credentialing of all licensed personnel within the nursing department to ensure adherence to policy and regulations by designated personnel
Employee accident records, alterations in original conditions of employment
Nurse schedules including leaves of absence, PTO, holiday time and overtime
Nursing staff mandatory in services and attendance records
Nurse dress code compliance
Ensuring adequate supplies of personal protective equipment are available when needed
Planning and implementation of nurse orientation programs for new nursing personnel, nurse aide trainee certification programs and evaluation of the same
Grievance procedures when appropriate. Ensures departmental disciplinary action is administrated fairly in accordance with company anit-discrimination and anti-harassment policies
Annual clinical staff fit tested per respiratory fitness policy, location of maintenance free respirators and educates shift supervisors.
Prior to admission of residents, participates with other designated personnel determining the eligibility of applicants and the appropriateness of placement.
Focuses on the full scope of the residents needs and how they can best be met
Oversees the development, review and updating of the Comprehensive Care Plan at required intervals, in conjunction with other resident care services.
Maintains accurate documentation in the clinical record of the ongoing progress of the resident’s condition and all other related factors involved in the total plan of care
Maintains confidentiality of all resident information
Ensure the MDS groupers are completed in a timely and accurate manner as outlined in the policies and procedures.
Prepares room rate information per The Enterprise policies
Maintains awareness of resident’s medical conditions and/or unusual circumstances, Initiates the coordinator of the necessary resident care services as indicated.
Maintains records of all pharmaceutical services and assures that recommendations are addressed in a timely manner by the Pharmacist and Physician (provider)
Regularly reviews the facility quality metrics and development of plans to improve/address aberrant indicators
Prepares reports for facility QAPI meetings, addressing mandatory categories and facility specific Performance Improvement Projects (PIPs)
Provides educational resources and materials to clinical providers, nursing staff, residents and families to learn about antibiotic resistance and opportunities for improving antibiotic use.
