Project Kuiper is an initiative to increase global broadband access through a constellation of 3000 plus satellites in low Earth orbit (LEO). Its mission is to bring fast, affordable broadband to unserved and underserved communities around the world. Project Kuiper will help close the digital divide by delivering fast, affordable broadband to a wide range of customers, including consumers, businesses, government agencies, and other organizations operating in places without reliable connectivity.

The Enterprise Technology Team is seeking a Network Development Engineer with technical breadth to own the design, planning, delivery, and operation of Kuiper's internal Enterprise Network . We are currently expanding our Networking team and are looking for a proven technology leader with robust technical understanding and the drive and vision to take Kuiper Network to the next level.

The ideal candidate has deep technical skills in Networking and cloud computing, allowing them to create innovative solutions that meet the needs of Enterprise Network customers and the Kuiper community. You'll do this by implementing sustainable processes and standards; driving optimization and automation opportunities to reduce delivery cycle times and improve quality without impacting application availability. Your Networking domain expertise and knowledge of design, implementation and operational best practices are essential to making a significant impact in this role.

Key job responsibilities

Roles and Responsibilities

  • As a Network Development Engineer, you will have end to end ownership (design, engineering, implementation, operations escalation) of our current and newly developing IP networks

  • Lead the design and evolution of highly available hyper-scale networks, driving them from concept to launch, and beyond

  • Define and influence strategy within and outside the team

  • Lead project teams to deliver impactful benefits to our customers

  • Work closely with network engineers and software developers to automate network deployment and operations

  • Drive operational excellence projects to improve network performance and reliability

  • Troubleshoot complex problems and develop innovative solutions

  • Review and implement changes on the network

Physical and Other Requirements:

  • Must be willing to support an off-hours operations escalation pager rotation.

  • Experience dealing with customers during problem resolution and operating efficiently under pressure.

  • The ability to sit in front of computer during scheduled work hours with appropriate breaks while maintaining a high level of alertness and attention to detail.

  • Travel to network sites and Amazon/customer offices as needed.

A day in the life

As a Network Development Engineer for Kuiper, you will be responsible for building, maintaining, and supporting the systems that Kuiper's research, development, and design teams rely on to build out our product. You will coordinate with researchers and engineers to build and support the infrastructure they need. You will work with vendors to evaluate, purchase, deploy, and support mission-critical tools. You will customize and integrate third-party software to meet Amazon's needs. You will improve existing infrastructure to ensure it continues to meet Amazon's high bar for operational excellence.

Note : This position requires onsite work in Bellevue, Redmond, and Everett WA. This is not a remote position.

Basic Qualifications

  • 4+ years of major internet routing protocols experience

  • 4+ years of working in a Linux/Unix environment experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • 1+ years of automation scripting using Python, Bash, Shell and/or Perl experience

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $127,400/year in our lowest geographic market up to $212,800/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
