Job Description

We're hiring for a remote Senior Software Engineer/Data Engineer. The ideal candidate will have a background in database migration, specifically from SQL Server to PostgreSQL. You will be responsible for converting all stored procedures from one to the other. The ideal candidate will possess experience in database engineering within Azure environments. This role will be instrumental in ensuring a smooth transition of data while maintaining data integrity, performance, and security. You will have significant experience looking at a stored procedure and understanding what it does, and then transposing it and validating that the transposition was done properly - i.e. producing the same results as the original stored procedure. Develop and implement migration strategies, including data transformation, schema conversion, and performance optimization. Create detailed documentation of migration processes, including mapping of data structures, migration scripts, and testing protocols.

Skills and Requirements

5+ years' experience in database management, implementing data warehousing solutions, supporting large-scale production database platforms.

Experience with Azure Databricks and Azure database services (i.e. Azure SQL Database and Azure Database for PostgreSQL).

Experience building data warehouses for streaming applications and event driven streaming - using tools like Spark, PySpark, Scala, Kafka, Kinesis, Firehose Kinesis

DevOps experience, particularly with CI/CD. Experience with automation, Terraform.

Strong proficiency in SQL, PostgreSQL and Aurora.

Experience with database performance tuning, troubleshooting, and optimization. Experience supporting an EdTech company.

Experience with ML (machine learning), LLM (large language model), and/or LLM RAG.

Experience with SCD (Slowly Changing Dimension).

Experience with database design and architecture.

Experience with database migration tools (e.g., AWS Database Migration Service, Azure Data Factory, etc.).

Proven experience in database migration projects, particularly from SQL Server to PostgreSQL. null
